According to a story on Kirkistown's website, Ivor McCullough broke the FF1600 lap record in 2011; however, the story does not mention a meeting or time. From going through the Northern Irish championship results, it would appear that McCullough's fastest time over the season was 1:01.076, set in a Van Diemen RF00 on the 26th March.

Kipper, thank you. I knew it was recently. I will put that lap time into the list; it can always be changed.

Scott Malvern leads the way with 3 lap records, closely followed by Peter Dempsey and Ivor McCullough on 2. The most successful car is the Van Diemen RF00 with 4 lap records, followed by the Ray GRS08.

I'm glad everyone is finding this interesting.

Does anyone know who holds the proper Combe record from before they changed it? Vergers or Goosens I would wager, with my money leaning towards Vergers in the black bomber.

Pre-chicanes it was Nigel Greensall in a Tyrrell 022: 50.59s on 25/08/97.

Post-chicanes it is Dan Clarke from the 2005 BF3/GT meeting.

Ah, it was Goosens, but it got beaten by Gavin Wills in the 1998 (or 97?) Carnival. Probably a mid to high 1m03s.

Whilst it's been mentioned, Monoposto cars are often slightly tweaked in terms of standard spec, but here is the list of Mono 1600 lap records.

For Lydden, you may have to go back as far as David Hardisty in the Astrarech / BARC FF1600 - best I have seen is 43.6 Van Diemen RF90 10/09/95.

I have a 43.5 lap at lydden back in '97 but i think the record is 43.3. I'll dig through some old lap charts if i can find them. Pretty sure the 43.3 was Neale Blunden in a Reynard, early '97 Kent County round.

I'd be interested to know how the average speeds compare if anyone has that. Would have thought Thruxton fastest with Mallory up there as well.

About Mallory, when the back of the exit kerb at the Esses was removed the circuit lost about 2 tenths on a like for like basis, the previous ability to straighten up earlier carried more revs into the Hairpin. With a historic FF the time dropped from 49.6 to 49.8. The recent resurfacing made the circuit incredibly fast for a short time - 49.0 in a historic (!) but it seemed to have settled back through the year, except the new surface seems more affected by outside influences - ambient temperature, drifting, motorcycle racing, oil etc - than the old surface was

Totally aggree with that, you used to able to run the whole car over the kerb on the left of the esses, now its so narrow and aggressive you can barley use it all. Can you remember when it was removed? had a feeling it was still there in 2009

Thanks Simon for backing up what I was referring to in post #25
If there is a difference at Mallory, surely these types of differences would apply at all circuits.

Surely if you go to Mallory, you go to race at Mallory, and not merely at those parts of the circuit that happen to suit you? I'd replace kerbs with vertical concrete walls, thus forcing drivers to stay on the designated path.

The late Tony Lanfranchi always used to state that the best way to prevent accidents at Paddock Bend at Brands Hatch would have been to install horizontal pointed steel spikes facing outwards towards the tarmaced racing surface; I'm not sure he was wrong.

Exactly the same thing that Richard Peacock used to say about curbing bravery at Aintree's Country Corner. He still uses the same line today about 'too brave drivers' at many corners on many circuits.

A quick thought about circuits that could be included within the list: both Phoenix Park and Bishopscourt are provisionally scheduled to hold race meetings in 2012. I've no idea regarding lap records for either venue though...

Josh,
The Kirkistown lap record can be updated. Jonny McMullan broke the record today with a time of 1:01.023.

'89 Mondial. As far as I can see John Stewart broke the pre '87 record as well with a 62.8 something in an 84 Reynard. Both cars prepared and run by John Harris.

Cheers SAMD.

McMullan's lap record has now been added to the updated list. If anyone can confirm Thruxton for me before this June's Ian Taylor Trophy that'd be brilliant. Pat Blakeney sometimes posts on here (VectorPat?) so maybe he could help...

Hi Josh,

I have an update for your list regarding the Snetterton 200 record.

We had a Classic FF1600 Double Header this weekend and 5 Drivers went under the old record with Mike Gardner recording a 1min 21.121 on Saturday 7th April 2012 in a Van Diemen RF80.

Regards
