jamie green deserves it on strength of performance.
danny watts deserves it because he spanked everyone with speed to spare during the season. adam carrol deserves it because he did really well, very fast car or not. any chimp can drive a car, but not everyone can drive one fast. christian england deserves it because he improved a lot. not sure if that's reason to give him all that lovely money and the support, but it's a reason. dan eagling i hear did very well, and i'm sure his nomination can be justified. just not by me, cause i don't know what he's done.. westley barber deserves it because he's got his career back on track, and he seems to have sorted out whatever it was that messed everything up before. i think jamie green should win it, although i'm sure danny could do with the publicity. the fact that some tabloid or another is aware of his existance is one step better than jamie though. |

Well done to Jamie Green, on a well deserved award. As I've said earlier on this thread, I feel that his career has got a great deal of momentum behind it, and wish him the best of success for 2003 and the future.
It was good, I thought, that Danny Watts got the club racing driver of the year award. This year, from the very first official Formula Renault test Watts was the fastest, and the championship never looked in any doubt. Some recognition, at least, for the driver that, despite beating Green to the title, lost out on the young driver award. Last edited by Paul Rayner; 2 Dec 2002 at 16:06. |

Well done to Jamie Green - there's no doubting he has a bright future. However, I still don't understand how a driver who didn't win a championship can be awarded Young Driver of the year status - by definition he's not the best is he? He was in the same team as Danny Watts but got beaten fair and square.Watts was better at the start of the season and still better at the end.He blew Green away at the last three rounds when Green was the only threat to his title. If Green is so good what does that make Danny Watts?

Jamie Green = First year of racing, First year of Renaults
Danny Watts = Fifth year of racing, third year of Renaults. Watts didnt exactly blow Green away and even though Watts was *faster* it looked like Green had more talent/potential |

Please define 'more talent and potential'.Watts out qualified Green 10 times to 3.Got past him the few times Green was actually in front (except Snett when Danny was on pole and Hamilton recked his car). Was miles in front at the last three rounds and lapped Fortec's F3 car quicker at Croft than Green did the same day with same team!Winning a championship is difficult - a few flashy performances is easy.Danny beat Kimi Raikkonen 3 times whilst at Manor in 2000 and the Fin had the greatest respect for him.He reckoned Danny was the quickest driver out there and all this was achieved in Watts' 1st FRenault season.Who would you NOT want on your gearbox- Watts or Green?

The autosport award is about the future though, and in that regard ill take Green over Watts. Green will only get better and as a rookie he was pretty close to Watts, so to me Green after 5 years of single seaters will be way ahead of Watts.

Sadly true ... Green is 20, Danny is 23? How good will Jamie be 3 years from now? I still think Danny deserved it on balance, because Jamie had nothing to prove and nothing to lose. They are both quicker, but as Russfeld said, its about the future and the impetus of your career. One has to wonder if Danny is going up or across from now on?

lol@Francesca ... wasn't (overtly) flirting .... I saw bella's last post at the top of the page, balancing all the attributes of the drivers, which is a very Libran trait. So I asked.

It's taken me years to get a sexy Russell Grant figure. Five pound reward (memory fade .. where did that come from? Python?) on its way. As to the awards, Danny Watts wins Club Driver?? How daft is that? A token.

I think the club driver of the year award is voted for by Autosport readers, and is not actually for "club racing drivers", but more "drivers who race in championships that appear in Club Autosport".
Which makes sense really, Danny did a great drive in what could be renamed a series which is "lower than an international championship", but that's not such a catchy name for an award, is it? Last edited by Paul Rayner; 4 Dec 2002 at 14:43. |

Let's be honest, it's National racing isn't it? Which is one step above club racing and one below International. There was a National award as well, won by Robbie Kerr.

Was Renaults club racing last year? i recall Gideon Creswell was a candidate for the Club Award having done FPA, and FRS is quite a level above that.

Or is that you Gideon .....? In fact, thinking about it your opinions do seem to coincide with Crashwell's quite a bit! |

Gideon attempted one Formula Renault race, at Brands Hatch Indy, his home circuit. Unfortunately, he went off early on in qualifying and started near the back and then, in the race, went off again.

Why does he spell his surname with one S. Is he trying to disguise himself?

In fact, Mr Crashwell is quite 'PC busy' and I'm surpised he doesn't post here quite a bit - but you do. Hmmm.
Also noted, your ignoring of his universal nickname 'Crashwell.' I'd better not put his other nickname as it offensive. |
