Great to see the Scottish Classic Sports and Saloons thriving. Has the the 'modern' Sports and Saloon championship folded ? A great shame if it has, it was contested by some great cars and drivers over the years. Regarding the Triplex Rover, comparing it to the other Rover, it looks as if the tailgate window surround has come adrift.

The “mod sports” now run with kmsc along with the legends at sls weekends as for the triplex rover the tailgate detached itself during qualifying

It's really sad that the racing is split into two camps in Scotland. Entry levels in most series are pretty poor.

Those with a vivid imagination may think it's a period Leyland Special Tuning aerodynamic aid! - alas, nothing so exotic, as contributors have advised, fasteners on the window surround failed.

SMRC canvassed all competitors last year to see who would be interested in
racing at events with very restricted numbers. The four best supported
categories were chosen and three meetings took place during September and October. 'Modern' sports & saloons(MSS) were not in these four categories.
This year, SMRC have held three events at Knockhill with a reduced number
of races, again without MSS. As Ewan mentions, there are MSS drivers competing this year at the Knockhill Motor Sports Club events in their ModSports Championship. SMRC have advised that they intend to run MSS next year.

There are eighteen entries for this Sunday’s races at Cadwell Park, fourteen from Scotland and four guests based closer to the circuit.
Great to see Pete Richards compete with Scottish Classics again, in his Clan Crusader.

It is difficult to see how that meeting with so few entries can be financially viable.

Sure, nothing beats the site of a full grid of classics but the SMRC races at Cadwell yesterday, really put on a good show with battles all the way down the field in all races.

A pity the Lotus 7 pulled off at the start and the Rover suffered mechanical woes in race one.

In race two they started at the back and had to work their way through the grid

The Allcomers race was nip and tuck as one of the leading four cars had a chance of victory.

An enjoyable day all round.

Cadwell Park hosted a great day of racing last Sunday.
First four qualifying cars were separated by less than a second,
championship leader John Kinmond the quickest from Andy Graham
and Charlie Cope. Mike Connon appeared for the first time in over
three years, in a Caterham 7, fourth fastest, ahead of guest
Martin Reynolds’ Holbay powered Ford Escort.

In race one, Graham took the lead from John Kinmond on lap four,
and remained at the front until the finish. Reynolds was 0.1 seconds ahead
of Philip Russell, in second and third places respectively.
Olly Mortimer, Fiesta 1300, was fourth from Alastair Baptie, Fiat X1/9.
The top six was completed by Jimmy Crow, MGBV8.
Michael Longstaffe, MG Midget, was seventh followed by Duncan O’Neill,
first of the XR2 category. Pete Richards took ninth place.
Paul Bowers was tenth from guest Charles Colledge in his very smart Mini Marcos.
John Kinmond was twelfth, and the final two finishers were the XR2s
of Nicola Campbell and David Reilly.

Graham continued his successful weekend, leading race two from start to finish.
John Kinmond came close to catching him, after starting near the back of the grid,
following axle problems in race one. Russell was third, Connon fourth, Reynolds fifth.
Cope came in sixth after starting at the rear of the field, Mortimer heading Baptie
by a fraction of a second in seventh. Crow was ninth and Longstaffe tenth.
Eleventh, Duncan O’Neill, Paul Bowers twelfth, Colledge thirteenth.
Nicola Campbell and David Reilly took the final two places.

Twenty-three entries, so far, for two rounds of the championship at Knockhill on Sunday 10th October. Race two will have the additional distinction of the Andy Walker Trophy – to be presented by a member of his family - in memory of a popular competitor who died earlier this year.

Craig Houston won the Andy Walker Trophy, presented yesterday by Mrs. Madge Walker,
in memory of her late husband. Several members of the Walker family were in attendance
at the event and prior to race two, Andy’s Triumph Special race car led competitors around
the circuit. It was driven by long-time friend of Andy, Iain Sinclair,
who has competed in Scottish motorsport for many years.

Race one had drama during the first lap, several cars exiting
the track after first corner and failing to take the re-start.
John Kinmond led from the beginning, closely pursued by Tommy Gilmartin,
until lap nine, when a minor coming together ended Gilmartin’s race in the gravel.
Next, Mike Connon, Shonny Paterson and Philip Russell swapped places,
finishing in that order. First time in the Classics for TVR driver Kenneth Brown,
ended in fifth place, with Charlie Cope – Golf GTI sixth and the Lotus Excel of Houston seventh.
Eighth, Oly Mortimer – Datapost Fiesta, was highest Class A car, followed by Ian Mitchell – Vauxhall Nova and Adam Kinmond – Rover Vitesse.
Great to see another driver have his first race in the Classics, Donald Dewar, in the Forth Tours supported Golf GTI, who came eleventh.
Paul Bowers – Fiat 128 Coupe, was twelfth, Nicola Campbell and David Reilly the final two completing the race.

Bruce Mitchell – Lotus Europa, was unable to start race two due to damage sustained earlier.
There were, however, nineteen cars which completed the second race, again John Kinmond winning, by only half a second from Gilmartin,
who started towards the back of the grid. Mike Connon drove his Caterham Seven to third, a tenth of a second behind Gilmartin.
Russell in the E36 BMW was fourth, Paterson – TR7V8, fifth, Brown sixth, another TR7V8, driven by Andy Graham, took seventh.
Cope and Dewar were next, followed by the Fiat X1/9 of Alastair Baptie. Houston was eleventh from Jimmy Crow, ‘running-in’ his RS2000’s new engine.
Mortimer was thirteenth, no doubt looking forward to participating at the Goodwood Members Meeting.
Adam Kinmond, Ian Mitchell and Duncan O’Neill took positions fourteen to sixteen respectively, Campbell, Bowers and Reilly
the final finishers.

John Kinmond leads the championship from Mortimer and Baptie, with two rounds remaining.

Championship sponsor, The Edinburgh Watch Company, presented their driver of the day award to Tommy Gilmartin.

John Kinmond is the 2021 champion. The Triplex Rover SD1 driver had two second places at the final meeting, to stay ahead of championship runner-up, Oly Mortimer, Datapost Fiesta. Third overall was previous champion, Alastair Baptie, Fiat X1/9.

Last Sunday was the first event of the season to be run in anticlockwise direction. Qualifying was wet and in both races the track was damp. In race one, TR7V8 driver Shonny Paterson took the lead at half distance and stayed there until the end. Kinmond, the early leader, was second, with Andrew Graham in #78 TR7V8 third. First time out this season for Adam Bernard, Porsche 911, was rewarded with fourth place. Philip Russell came from the back of the grid to fifth in his E36 BMW, sixth was the VW Golf of Charlie Cope.

Paterson repeated his victory in race two from Kinmond and Russell. Graham, Cope and Baptie took the next three places. Seventh was Kieron Baillie in a Lotus 7. Bernard was eighth and Alasdair Coates, MGBV8, ninth, just ahead of Jimmy Crow’s Escort RS2000. Mortimer was eleventh.
Adam Kinmond, Rover Vitesse, was twelfth after a close battle with Craig Houston in a Lotus Excel.
Andrew Macgregor, Mazda MX5, was fourteenth. First of the XR2s was Nicola Campbell, one second ahead of Duncan O’Neill, final finisher David Reilly.

An excellent ending to an enjoyable season of racing.
