Oh, im very sorry, I don’t really pay attention to electric racing but I thought it may be helpful for the discussion.

Yeah, it makes EGT look good in that they have a car testing. But it currently only is one car and it's already out of date. Even if they posted photos of the new car being built then we'd have a little more faith in it happening.
I don't think many are really paying attention to electric racing but this series would've solved a few problems that FE hasn't done so far! |

Is that electrical thing able to survive without any state- or crowd-funding? Is that alive at all without helping hand even if (at least as they say) there's strong interest in this type of racing/machinery?

Electrical GT has a car reveal on June 21st. It's a bit odd, because we've seen the P85 testing, and the P100 is externally the same car, but with a new grill.
Still not confident this series will go anywhere, but the car is quite interesting. |

One team doesn't make a series. I am waiting for the first race postponement announcement press release. It is a matter of time.

You joke, but I commentated on the first Smart championship race back in 2011(?) at Donnington
First qualifying and they didn't even get half way round the track before the first inversion; not due to contact... it just rolled But they are built tough as once marshals got it tipped over, the car just carried on |

Whatever its merits, the Smart EQ fortwo e-cup is an e-series that's up and running. It looks like the cars have way too much understeer to fall over and I hope the organisers have a good supply of door mirrors! |

We laugh at it, but it can't be more chaotic than the Clio cup. Looks like good fun.

The cars went away and were modified that winter, and came back rather less prone to falling over. I think it was 2012 or 2103 that I marshalled a weekend at Rockingham where they paired up the Smarts with a class full of Sakers. The Smarts were all lapped by the end of the second lap! Still, back to EGT: I know they announced dates, but things aren't looking too encouraging which is a shame as I'm quite looking forward to this getting going. |

And in news that will surprise no one:
Electric GT postponing season until 2019 in pursuit of lead sponsor. "The final ingredient is confirming a great lead investor who shares our vision of clean energy and transport, which is fundamental to launching the championship at the highest level possible. “The championship start date will be set once this lead investor has been confirmed.” And: “We’re certainly aiming for the first half of 2019, it’s just a case of finding out when the money actually gets done and we’re ready to rock. “We’re absolutely certain of next year. There’s a lot of opportunities to race next year and the remaining steps are essentially just down to this one step.” Sounds to me like there's no one lined up and they are fishing for that money, feeling less sure about this. Similar to the i-Pace racing that is supposed to start testing this month but only one team confirmed thus far. |

This is my shocked face.
At least it has the car now, rather than the prototype one they used before. But still, it doesn't look like it'll go anywhere. |

It hasn't been going anywhere since 2016. Pure vaporware.
Rallycross also 'delayed' the introduction of electric racecars. Let's hope this stupid hype dies down very quickly. Last edited by EffectiveSprinkles; 15 Sep 2018 at 09:03. |

Governments are now pushing all-electric on people. It's seemingly going to happen regardless if we like it or not. I think that's the sad part. That's a long conversation unrelated to this thread but I don't expect motorsport enthusiasts to just accept it.

What governments do is hardly ever related to reality. They are purely reactionary. As soon as they see they're missing out on money because of tax breaks they will remove them as soon as they can which always means sales of electric cars plummet to near zero.
If electric cars are the future they will be so because they are better than the alternatives to the user. Not before. |

UK taxes cars based on CO2 output, whilst diesel gate was for cheating NOX emissions. There may be some cases where CO2 outputs were cheated, but NOX isn't taxed so it didn't apply anyway. And yeah, they're all at it - every single one of them. Just a matter of degree and time till caught.

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. There's more public concern about climate change than about toxic gases.

I'd say that comment was more due a response of don't feed the troll. At this point he's more of just that voice from the internet thinking he is smarter being obstinate and oppositional. Better to ignore than respond, and actually probably better to just close down the thread sadly as discussion has gone the way of the dodo.

So the situation now is that the government is subsidizing rich guys who want to look cool because they have a Tesla. And rich guys who buy one of those glorified shopping carts for their wives while they drive around in their big diesel BMW. Sounds like the future doesn't it Incidentally the best sold 'electric cars' in the Netherlands are.... plug-in hybrids. Same thing with these electric racing series. The technology is nowhere near good enough to do anything interesting with (including FE) so it's all masked in PR smoke and mirrors. FE succeeds only because it can use the 'Formula' name and it got the blessing of the FIA who told manufacturers they can look good to governments who otherwise despise racing. And people actually fall for it, the cult of personality Musk has built over himself has turned into a tribe in itself. 'Electric is not the future but it's already here' and if you don't believe it you're a denialist who can't handle change. Or something of that nature. |
