They were recruiting for engine people 3 years ago so I would imagine the car design is well along the way.#
For what he is worth Benson is reporting that part of this might be a rift between Horner and Adrian, I think Horner pushing other members of the design team for praise rather than simply Adrian, I guess we will never know the truth there. And then obviously the inter team and Thai stuff that seems to be ripping them apart internally. |

Unless everyone has been overplaying the genius of the man for years on end, then I think that this is the biggest news to hit F1 regarding personnel moves in a very long time - and that includes drivers jumping ship.
Sounds like Ferrari are trying to get him. Either the press are making 2+2=5, or this is an unexpected result of the weird and wonderful Horner stuff from earlier this year. No man is bigger than the team etc, but a huge blow for RBR. No gardening leave according to Skysports news, which is slightly different to what Saward tweeted. |

So basically his design team beneath him will be rolling out updates to the 2024 Red Bull car by themselves? I think they have such an advantage that RB won’t be caught this season, 2025, who knows…

So, basically, there will be a brand new engineering team working on the car for the '26 season. Won't be surprised if he later does an announcement of his retirement from the sport.

Sometimes is looks as though the other teams simply can't master the current ground effect aerodynamics. As the big overhaul of the regulations will come into effect by 2026, I don't expect other teams to make big investments for next year.

Newey ordered a sailboat in 2023 for the purpose of "sailing around the world", his words. He's taking delivery in 2024. So it seems to me that he is retiring. Sailing around the world takes a minimum of 3 years.
But even if he went to Ferrari, is there really any game changing proprietary technical information about the ground effect Red Bull that he can share? With 3 years of convergence with these ground effect cars, the head start Red Bull had with its design is already almost gone. Before the technical directives in 2022, the Ferrari was just as fast as the Red Bull too. I don't think Newey's arrival will be the short or medium term game changer that some people think it will be. |

Marko's name was noticeably absent from Newey's statement thanking everyone. As was naming Horner as a close family friend.

You also have to factor in as a guy at work said to me recently, he is bloody 65!
I know he is a competitive man, but I would guess if he took some time out he might enjoy it, he loves driving and he has a passion for sailing I gather, so why not just chill and do some stuff, he must have enough dough to afford it. But as we all know winning drives this desire and you cant really win in a boat in the same way! You cna but not as regularly and routinely as you can in F1 |

The interesting bit for me is that the departure time is so swift.
Until you read some of the peripheral f1 news websites, that suggests Mr E.Jordan had some kind of hand in helping open the door to an elegant and swift departure from Red Bull.. or one of its entities Now if the above is true.. and only perhaps half a dozen people in the world know that first hand… there isn’t likely to be a pay day in getting someone out of something. Wonder if Mr Jordan was with Mr Vasseur and Mr Newey were in conference in the UK earlier in the week.. to squeeze the deal and get a payday. If it’s right.. it’s an interesting gig for the facilitator.. |

Whether he goes somewhere else or retires completely in the medium or long term this should help bring Red Bull back to the field to some extent which is what F1 needs.

Retire or go to Ferrari? Do both! Primarily be retired, but consult with Ferrari on a schedule that fits the level of involvement he may want. As I mentioned on an earlier page, it lets him check off that "Worked for/with Ferrari" (and maybe Lewis) box.

I was unsure, but I think we can leave the Adrian Newey thread separate from the Red Bull thread, as he's going anyway, and we're not on to discussing him being elsewhere.
