Formula 1 really becomes a joke. Formula 1 was the pinnacle of motorsport once. Nowadays it's the joke of motorsports.

Presumably the teams will just invest their money into those specific areas?

Well, suppose the regulations work and reduce spending on engines.
They are just going to go and spend it somewhere else. |

I can't see any team willing to do that! |

I was more thinking in terms of the standard development of other aspects of the package.

they've lost the plot with these proposed regulations. they do nothing for making better racing on track, do nothing for making more interesting cars, do nothing but rob part of the exotic heritage that is F1.
As a fan, i would hope that one team makes a breakthrough and is able to rev an engine to 25,000rpm in the next few years... who doesnt? that's more likely to relate to a car i drive in the future than a revised bargeboard design for instance... and having a more efficient aero package makes the cars on track behaviour bland, especially when watching on tv. Why couldn't the FIA propose aero restrictions like having an aero blueprint submitted by teams before the season for a whole season, or two, therefore lessening the cost of wind tunnels and their operation which is one of the biggest (and growing) modern cost to teams in F1? And only allow 1 engine upgrade per season or something? still keep the development but regulates its benefit... I think we all want to see the best drivers shine, rather than to think they win because their team have the money to run their wind tunnel(s) with more personnel which is where all the money will go... |

oh and less aero means "soft clock" drivers like trulli can't blame their poor race pace on "something didn't feel right" aero glitches

Then, we still have the hope to pray for optional three-car teams in order to strenght the grids (12 teams could bring up to 36 cars). |

I dont believe that in one of the worlds biggest sports there would not ba a way to house more than 12 teams at a GP, especially considering that there asre racing formula with grids of more than 24 cars that also use these circuits.

If the number of entries is limited, then the value of the teams taking part increases.
Just a thought. |

You mean less teams = less total %?
I would've thought that if there was a bunch more teams Bernie would just make them spread the same total % amongst themselves. |

The limit of 12 teams doesn't make much sense to me. The FIA wants to attract more teams and that's why it will introduce ridiculous regulations. But on the other hand, only 12 teams are allowed to take part.
At this moment we already have 11 teams competing. Formula 1 has two more cars at the start than the less expensive IRL. So, would a 12th team really add something? |

In fact, most of F1 tracks have enough garage space to put 21 racing teams if they want, as they did in 1989, but some of them would have reduced space to do their work if they wanted to put all together on pitlane garages, and this could "harm" team image, relationship with sponsors et al. I don't agree fully with this mood of thinking, GP2 teams are 13 and they can't use pitlane garages, just have to put the cars in front of them, and later moving to other boxes or tends situated at other garage areas. And there are no problem for them. |
