Good to hear the confirmation (or almost).
It won't be a threat to the top places, but it will give Porsche more data to work with....and PR. |

So, it's racing to today at Petit. It had a few issues, but has done a good job. What are the chances of this Hybrid replacing the current 997 GT3 RSR as Porsche's GT2 car?

I was fascinated that it used Cayenne front axles. Again, Porsche able to build something new with components that are on the shelf.
What does the Hybrid weigh? I would guess the GT3R H will be run as exhibition car unitl the 918 is ready, which seems likely to be the exhibition car at LeMans in 2011. |

Given the way the ACO's hybrid P1 regs seem to be going, I don't think this is that far off the direction we'll see for GTs in a few years. I doubt the drivers would mind one bit; the joy in Bergmeister's voice when he talks about how fun the car is to drive is barely containable! The deciding factor will probably be how interested the major OEMs - particularly those that are not named Porsche - are in marketing hybrid sportscars in the next decade. The advertising value of being the first is working well for Porsche without immediate production relevance, but that won't last forever.
On a personal note, neat car! I would have loved to see them throw a retro livery from a famous Porsche on it as well, but perhaps there are too many legal issues with most of those schemes. Still, a hippy or classic Martini livery would have been fabulous. |

Version 2.0 of the hybrid 911 has more powerfull electric motors (75 instead of 60 kW), lower drag and weighs 50 kg less (1300 instead of 1350 kg).

The Porsche Hybrid will be doing some promotional tests at Estoril during this week with a local driver: http://www.lemansportugal.com/destaq...os-convidados/
Trying to encourage buyers I see, and to promote Hybrid technology. |

According to Marshall Pruett, Porsche have set aside the GT3 Hybrid 2.0 and are working on the 918 RSR as an interim car prior to the LMP1.

Where would the 918 race, and in what class? I'm sure the ALMS would let them run Unclassified, but I wonder if that is good enough for Porsche? Could we assume the 918 RSR will be used as a testbed for systems to be utilized in the LMP1?

I have the same questions. If this is true, then I imagine that Porsche's primary focus is in using the car as a test bed. They wont be too interested in being classified. (That will still be the job of the GTE's)

Unless the 918 is pretty close to running I don't really understand the move. Don't get me wrong I'd punch a small child to see one in G56 in 2013 but by that time wouldn't they be better to be off testing tech on an LMP mule somewhere behind closed doors?
Unless it's able to pound around at VLN's/N24 all year I'm not sure why you would build a brand-new car just to go testing? Saying that, I might be wide of the mark and kind of hope I am! |
