Lee Janotta should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Minime, it was 1989, not 1991, that Senna hit a backmarker. Both were crashfests, but the '89 race was allowed to go on to the finish.

- A 3-4 foot high concrete fence prevented the spray from escaping? (it's all chain link above that).

Interstingly Jacques also was allowed to change his engine. The rule that they're not allowed to touch the cars after quali has far too many loop holes in it. I bet BAR could have done just about anything they wanted to the car and they wouldn't have noticed.

Groovy. I was looking for a pic from that race, the best I could find was one from Monaco '84.

Safety car? Aww! These are supposed to be the best drivers in the WORLD! My mother can drive in the rain!!!

Besides, this is one of the best wet-weather fields we've had in years. M$, Rubens, JPM, Kimi, and Webber are all demons in the wet.

Do they have to do in front of FIA officials?

What was wrong with the engine? Although it is maybe open to abuse with qualy engines etc, I'm glad they allow it. It would be bad to lose an entrant a couple of laps into the race.

When its big puddle wet its a different story, I have driven single seaters over big puddles and the whole thing floats in whatever direction it wants at 130mph, not pretty if there are any walls around. It cant be done if its as wet as it they are saying. I heard Shuey say something along those lines too. And didnt Kimi spin three times on the straight the other day? Thats not racing.

However if its just wet wet then its ok If anyone understands...

Yep! It's a matter of aerodynamics, Jay. Surfer's is a narrow track, so you can't get out of the other guy's spray, and there's no wind blowing it away, it just hangs there. The fences, grandstands and trees all conspire to make visibility nonexistant under wet conditions there. No such problem is present at Adelaide (much wider!), or Interlagos for that matter. And Monaco is too damn slow for the spray to really get up in the air, except for on the trip up the hill, and then as you're leaving the tunnel... But those are areas where you know to be careful.

Perhaps surprisingly, Verstappen can be good in the wet too, not that Minardi will matter - but ya never know, rain is the great equaliser.

Can someone please clarify the tire rule for me? I must have missed this one. Why are no full wet tires available for the race? Seems a little daft.

Do teams have to select 2/3 tire-types or something, and none of them have chosen full wets, or is it the manufacturers who decide which tires to bring?

A confused Phil

Edited for spelling

Lee, I don't feel like arguing basics, so you can believe what you want.

Getting the first pictures from the Brazil, and it doesn't look that wet at all? Was all the fuss simply becuase the media centre was flooded? It looks like inter terretory actually.

Cripes, it's coming down again... Alright, _this_, I'll admit... As a driver, I'd certainly go out in it (hell, I'd go out in _snow!_), but I suppose the organizers really can't start the race in a downpour this heavy.

2 hours under pace car. If this happens presumeably some will still have to stop for fuel?

If not Rubens wins.

First person to stop and fill up till the end wins. He'll go in and join the back of the queue and wait till everyone else stops!

yeah, I take back what I said before, it's really coming down now. You can't do that in inters. I don't think you could race in that downpour period actually.

I've got an idea. Why not a allow more than one type of wet tyre!

OK. THe Michelin inters look better for lots of rain (more like wets), but presumably the safety car doesn't go in till it is safe for all. So they wait till the conditions are best for Bridgestone! And Michelins are not inter enough!

Hence you make your one tyre type as much like a slick as possible. No racing until your tyre is suited to the conditions.

GP racing!

The safety car could cream the F1 cars in these conditions (seriously).

Just shows how these cars are NOT designed for these conditions.
