Here our view of things:
http://www.gt-eins.at/cms/index.php?...=7183&Itemid=1

I hope that someone tries a restart - but I also don´t see this coming
A shame to mess up such an great idea. Tha Race 2010 at the Nürburgring was great ! (35 cars) This will be remembered as the highlight of the series.

What makes me laugh of that the future concept is that in the future (In case of the demise of the GT3 class per costs) the 458 Replacer GT4 or the Gallardo replacer GT4 would have to compete with the current Toyota 86GT GT4, Mazda MX5, Hyundai Genesis, well is not like it soundds because at that time this actual GT4 cars will be not homologable, but we will have to remember a MX5 GT4 existed time ago... Curious what that class cost evolution brings with time...

With a price cap of 130.000 Euros building a GT4 Gallardo or 458 seems impossible, so no problem there...

+ GT4 isn't aimed at the supercars.

Good decision to go back to the technical rules of 2010.

The only Ferrari I can see being in GT4 is the California. But even that is a long shot. There is an Corvette in GT4, though.

There is still life in GT4!

First of all: briilliant ideas for a recovery of the GT4 from the SRO !
(without any irony)

And yes - there may be the chance to a GT4-ferrari. Just create a GT4-kit for the old F430 Challenge-cars. (F458 would be out of contetion as these are GT3/GTE, they are too expensive for the targeted cost-cap and would mean another factory-involvement - which would imbalance the GT4).

Whether this option is in the spirit of GT4 remains to be discussed

But back to topic: the current model for 2013 - with the trophy as "guest-races" within existing cups & GT4-series - is a clever option.
It still holds some disadvatages - especially in avoiding date clashes for potential participants - but its a feasible way where I see most win-win-options for all stakeholders of the GT4.

Currently in a discussion in our forum the theory was brought up to avoid the inclusion of GT4-classes in longer endurance races. This should be done to avoid the development of expensive "endurance-packages" which would undermine the GT4-cost-cap, as already seen at the GT3´s

Your thoughts on that?

Where does the price cap leave the Prodrive's best-seller - V8 Vantage GT4?

As far as I'm aware it's under the 130 thousand Euros price cap, so it would still be eligible.

The GT86, MX-5, probably some Ginettas of some sort, a Hyundai whatever, and...Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The balance of performance in GT4 will be absolute nonsense.

Looks like we have our first team.

The Toyota's can make 300+hp no problem. And they can go very light. That's the Mazda's forte as well- very light. The Aston is a heavier car but more powerful. Don't see how they can't make them close together in terms of performance.

Why do you think?

Regarding the Aston: its basic price is to my knowledge something around 130k€ but which Endurace- & Performance-kits its above that limit (160k€)
"Go back to 2010 performace" would probably mean to ban or "to BoP" that packages.

As for the Mazda: regarding to our knowledge this car is far above the price-cap - has somebody more facts?

The price being quoted for the Mazda a while back was £150k sterling according to Autocar (or £125k plus VAT from a comment posted at the end of the article)

That GT4 MX-5 has a turbo, Mazda never produced a turbocharged NC MX-5. A rather generous gift in my opinion. The Aston uses an engine that is extremely close if not identical in spec to the car sold in the showroom. The GT4 MX-5 has been extensively modified, not really original to the production model. That Autocar article states that the GT4 car has 320bhp, the Mazda website claims only 160bhp for the production version.

The Maserati was thought of as a potential class killer for a while, but those seem to have really fated into obscurity. Bit of a shame, those were great looking cars!

It still needs some manufacturers to get behind the idea and homologate cars or allow individuals/ teams to homologate cars.

I intend to apply to the SRO to run the 350Z with full aero kit and twin turbo conversion as offered by an obscure Japanese tuner that you (and I) have never heard of and almost certainly doesn't exist. We'll have 500bhp but we'll be able to turn it down to 250bhp for the BOP... and it'll be sub Euro 130k... but if you want one, you'll have to buy 2 and you'll have to buy the team support/spares package which is Euro 200k per year per car.

Seriously? Turbo MX5s? Cost caps that they have a history of letting people walk right through? (aka Audi with the R8) Kit cars that have no road car equivalent on the market allowed to run still? Ginetta G50 I'm talking to you...

And I'm hearing rumours they will be taking the p*ss even more on the tyres this time, so not ONLY will you pay 2 * the price of the same tyre bought at a VLN meeting BUT the Blancpain tyre rules (which have upset the teams there so much) will be brought in so you'll have to buy X sets of slicks each weekend of which you'll be allowed to carry basically none of them to run at any following rounds even if they are unused.

Tyres designed to wear out as quickly as possible (so you buy more...) that then only work on the lightest cars in the Championship?

Think we've seen all this before from the SRO... do we think anyone wanting to run a nice Maserati Cup car (Maserati being big friends of the SRO) which was/will be so expensive when launched be turned away?

Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me.

I was going to post something and then I realised that i was about to say something similar to a post I made 2 years ago. I can't commnet on the tyre situation but I do agree about the daft situation whereby non production cars can be entered or existing cars turbocharged when no production road car version exists (wasn't that called "Modsports" in the UK a long time ago???!!!).

GT4 is such a great concept and should be very popular but isn't. Very odd. Great potential for customer cars to be used in national and pan european GT4 series as well as in local series such as Britcar.

The key point is: where are the manufacturers now?
In Germany, Japan, the US and GB are the main manufacturers.
These are well represented in the GT4-ranks.

As for the new Maserati : it is too elaborated and far beyond any cost cap to go as GT4. Its more in the spirit of GT3.
