It makes a mess but depends on what your flow of a race ideal is. Frankly this is close to mid 80s on CART races, maybe a bit more chaotic with the track vs driver insanity but not outlandish for history. Biggest problem is how expensive it starts to get to teams

Ericsson did ok but reckon he had a good chance to get Armstrong 5 laps from the end into the hairpin bit he backed out. A Montoya, Power or someone would have probably dived up the inside.

Could there been a certaim element of ensuring a podium rather than risk a dnf chasing after a win?

Perhaps, and after the month he has had I bet he just wanted a result.


Just looking at results and for Power and Ferucci to finish in top 10 with all their issues and penalties is quite impressive. Never heard a mention of why Luundgard pitted with 2 laps left but I'm guessing it was fuel.

It was a messy race for sure, as was the IMSA race reportedly. Probably a case of this particular street race being too short, too bumpy, some weird corners where the barrier curves back in etc. Some attention to detail on the circuit design/build and lengthening it would make a really big difference iMHO.

.....or maybe there was just something in the water in Detroit this weekend?
