Don't know about the exact specs of the cars, but there were several SAAB 9000 used in a British saloon-car championship in 1990.

Picko Troberg will run one car, ex 2005 WTCC Rosenblad, BMW 320i for David Björk in STCC this season.

Good news. Always nice with some new kids racing and good to have Picko's moustache back in the spotlights.

Sportinformation.com reports that both Kuhmo and Michelin are interested in taking over as tire supplier to the STCC. Dunlop currently holds that contract but are rumoured to be on their way out.

Things are moving fast since the new management took over - today it was announced that the Swedish automotive parts firm MECA has signed on to be the primary sponsor of the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

That is good to hear the STCC is stable at the least? 6 months ago, it looked like the STCC could disappear?

So what romoured entries do we have for 06? Something like this?:

West Coast Racing, Rickard Göransson, BMW E46 or E90? (Will he go to WTCC and skip STCC compleatly?)
West Coast Racing, Thed Björk, BMW E46 or E90?
Polestar Racing, Edvard Sandström?, Volvo S60
Polestar Racing, Robert Dahlgren?, Volvo S60 (or will he go to Formula Atlantic?)
KSM, Audi A4, Fredrik Ekblom? (or will he go to DTM? And will there even be an Audi team this year?)
KMS, Audi A4, Kristofferson or Colciago?
Engström Motorsport, Tomas Engström, Honda Accord
Engström Motorsport, Jens Hellström?, Civic or Accord?
IPS Motorsport, Johan Sturesson, Peugeot 406
IPS Motorsport, ?, Peugeot 406
Opel Team Sweden, ?, Opel Astra (new 06 car)
Opel Team Sweden, ?, Opel Astra (old ex BTCC car)
Team Italienska Bil, Mattias Andersson, Alfa 156
Veidec Racing/Flash Engineering, Jan Nilsson, BMW E46 (confirmed?)
Daniel Haglöf Motorsport ?, Daniel Haglöf, Honda Civic?
?, Tobias Johansson, Mercedes S200
?, Hans Simonsson ?, Mercedes S200
Picko Troberg Racing ?, David Björk, BMW E46

Cant remember the name of Tobias Johanssons Mercedes team tho... But does it souds realistic? Any other new teams coming in for this year? And how many Privateers can we expect?

Looks quite good that list.

But I doubt that we will see any E90 in STCC this year.

And also, Göransson looks to be on the way from WCR. Perhaps to Volvo or to another BMW team, if you listen to Jan Erik Berggrens blog.

As for Ekblom it doesent seem as he will go to DTM, but Colciago still seems to be a hot alternative for KMS. Perhaps Kristoffersson will step down? I doubt it though.

There are many things happening right now, so I guess we can expect some good updates on this quite soon.

That is surprising indeed. I just thought that since many teams are fighting over getting a E90 in WTCC, STCC teams would get a hard time.

I think West Coast Racing has a lot of support from Germany however, so it wouldnt surprise me if they did get two new cars. Think its very unlikely if any other team then them would get it in STCC tho.
Do any one know what happends to Rudholm now when he didn't get the main sponsor thing sorted? Is he still in the hot seat for any car? And Jocke Mangs where also looking for a STCC seat for this year, seeing as he won the JTCC he would be quite a hot name, wouldn't it? And also Fredrik Lestrup, where will he go? He has no contract with Picko Trobergs JTCC team taht he ran in last year, I heard he was looking for a STCC seat, but where could he turn up? Would it be possible to think that maybe Picko Troberg will run a 2 car team next year with Lestrup as the 2nd driver? And what happend with that romour about Pontus Mörth returning to STCC? Lots of questions, yeah. But are there any answers this early?

Auto Motor & Sport are now reporting that they know for sure that Göransson is going to race in Flash's BMW team. Flash should have the Swedish Post as sponsor and two new cars are on the way.

Assuming we get a couple of privateers, things are looking pretty good to surpass the 20-car mark right now. Can't wait for the season to begin

Unfortunately it seems Gotland Ring and Valerbanan are off the schedule, according to Sportinformation.com (GR because the necessary updates aren't finished yet and Valerbanan because of the poor crowds, apparently). Kinnekulle Ring is rumoured to replace one of the two drop-outs. I sure hope they replace both of them, as losing one round wouldn't be good for the already, IMHO, much too short schedule.

Agree. Kinnekulle is a great track tho, I remember they raced there in 97. I hope they'll replace the other round with the Mantorp short track.

No confirmed drivers there yet as I know. Will be interestning to see who will take Göranssons spot as no 1.

I spoke to a guy from Gotland Ring late last year. He had no doubts that the track would be ready for the STCC race this season.

Edward Sandström is saying he's probably leaving Volvo and is looking for a long-term deal with another STCC team.
