It'll be interesting to see how John goes in qual/racing
He's had an average year in F3 with a mid field team. Everything else he's done in car racing has been pretty impressive (in good gear too) First season in FF he won a National Championship round and the Vic State Champoinship Second year in FF won the Nartional Championship, Rookie of the year and a British FF round on debut in an Austrailan car. F3 was a huge step , going to another country and learning all the tracks and F3 in general. He was quick when it rained but it only rained for one race and one qualifying sesion all year. The rest of the time the engine/car was not competitive. He was fastest in the pre season test for A1 despite the worst track conditions and has been very fast in the Rookie sessions when you compare times to regular drivers that still do Rookie sessions. I guess we'll see if that pace can continue into qualifying and racing. NZ will be interesting but Eastern Creek will be very interesting as it's a track John's actually driven at before. |

I think it's a shame Leanne Tander has gone off to Formula V6 Asia.
I think Aussie A1 team need to take some pretty strong punts at this stage of the game if they are to come away from this season with head high and I think Tander will do that, not so sure that Martin will cut the mustard |

Realistically what has Leanne Tander done to suggest that she would be able to turn things around?

Dam you bet me to it Armco.
IMHO what Team Aussie need right now is either a top driver that can win some races and bring that car home with a reasonable points haul to not question if they will be back next year. Either that or raise the profile of the team giving them some much needed awarness. Leanne will do that and the down side is ------!!! well there is no down side. IMO Leanne will do a better job that what Dyk has. I will leave you with this thought. Danica Patrick |

Let's get back to reality here...
Leanne Tander's claim to fame as a driver is that she lost the Australian F3 championship after establishing a pretty good lead. She now heads to the non-descript and bordering on anonymous Formula V6 Asia championship. John Martin's claim to fame is stepping into the cut-throat world of British Formula Ford and winning on debut. He is also driving for Kimi Raikkonen's championship-winning British F3 team this season. There is absolutely no comparison! Last edited by mac; 14 Jan 2008 at 05:33. |

Thank you mac.
Unfortunately for some reason they don't televise Australian F3 here in China so I have not seen it and therefore couldn't really comment, but I have found all this Leanne Tander talk a bit odd. I'd love to see proper racing develop in Australia instead of the taxis, but the reality at the moment is that Australian F3 is hardly a decent credential for a competitive global series like A1GP. |

The next driver after Martin will be Daniel Ricciardo. He was along side martin as Rookie driver for this season. Ricciardo was meant to be rookie driver at Sepang but didn't get to go because he tested for teams for the 2008 season and also got announced as a RedBull Junior driver.

Does anyone know if the six races rule for rookies actually means six races or six race meetings? I believe it is the former, in which case John Martin will do rookie sessions in Taupo, Eastern Creek and Durban, after which he will be ineligible and a new rookie will be needed for Shanghai and Brands Hatch.

Yep, will be interesting to see who the new Rookie will be.
Martin isn't doing the Mexico round so someone's going to get to race too. |

I forgot about the Mexico round in my above post. I presume he will miss that due to British F3 commitments?

Yes it's the weekend before a British F3 round.
F3 is the priority at this stage. |

Did Mr Martin put the Australian A1GP car on pole and win both races at Taupo? No? But wasnt he the "great white hope" for the franchise? Wasnt he "leaps and bounds" better than Ian Dyk?
So.. are we pointing back to he real problem, of car prep and engineering? |
