and they have a very limited sportscar program this year: no ALMS or LMS, only Sebring and Le Mans (6 and 9 drivers; which is more than the number of drivers who raced the R10 in the last year) and an R8 GT3 program in a series where there should not be a lot of factory involvement or pro drivers.

In GT3 there's no factory involvement at all. But there're professional drivers + rich enthusiasts there. Besides, Abt said he wanted to step a new area.
Maybe, some DTM drivers are to race in GT3? So,it gives some space for new names in DTM.
And that BRDC bonus tests for young drivers - they've drove DTM cars as well.

Well,it's just rumors, but I've heard there's a possibility for Roman Rusinov to take a seat in TME.
I don't know whether that's true - he's rather busy (I hope) with Reiter and their Lambos.

Alex K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Doesn't Lambo belong to VW-Audi or Porsche?

Quite sad how many single seater talents end up here, isn't it.

And where should they go? F1 isn't rubber. And racing in DTM or LMS or GT is better then dreams of 'world champion'. Besides, there too many people with huge names in F1,who's taken the seat of true talented racers like Di Resta or Paffett.

If you wanna be a Formula Star, than try Formula Master, Formula 2, GP2 Series, ....
If you drive DTM, i think it's not the best thing for your upcoming carrer!?

What a joke that DTM is: Ralf not only will get a 09 car but also a 3,5 million euro salary

The question is who's out, Paffett or maybe Di Resta moving to other (F1) activities?

Oh dear. I hope that's an extra 09 car - if not then someone more deserving has just been bumped.

Pretty terrible. Mercedes focusing on marketing not results for 2009 then.

Oh well, they'll suffer when Audi crush them

If there's a 30-point gap between him and Paffett(who's going to be a champion,I think) after the last race, then it'll be a great succes for Ralf. 6-8 at the starting grid and the same by the finish line. Maybe a single top3 result.

Ralf has only the commercial thing going for him, and I think that he knows that its make or break for him know. He will under no circumstances be in the title fight even with a 2009 car.

Read on Touringcartimes, that Ekström and Scheider has been offered new 3 year contracts with Audi. Well deserved indeed, but what about Tomzcyk?

I would happily see him go, yet another year of underperformance. How about Rene Rast in his seat?

Regarding Tomczyk he had a really good 2007 where he seemed to make the necessary step up in the nick of time. But his performance this year was a dissapointement that was a bit hard to understand.

The new Audi did seem to suit Timo Scheider really well and borth Tom and Mattias struggled a bit but they still to manage it better than Tomczyk. But I have the impression Tomczyk is pretty secure at Audi?

I guess there will be very little changes in Audis line-up this season, something they have hinted at themselves.

Tomczyck is an Audi-driver for a long time already. As we can see from the 3-yeardeals with Scheider and Ekstrom, Audi is a company that likes long-term relationships with key personnel. In such relationships one mediocre year should be nothing to lose your job for, unless your performance is offcourse structurarally down.
And also at Audi, they will keep an eye on the popularity of drivers. At the end of the day, they are in the game to sell more roadcars.

Tomczyk had an upturn in 2007, that is correct. Biut I also think it helps, that daddy is the president of the DMSB. The new R14 car is to be driven more softly, where the R12Plus and R13 was to be driven on the edge to catch the last tenths, according to Tom Kristensen.

Tomczyk has always had a rough drivingstyle, annd I guess that the change to the current car didnt suit him. But honestly, I dont think that he has earned a lifetime right to a factory Red Bull car. Marcel Fässler would drive in circles around him, and I still would like to hype Rast, eventhough he would have to drive a Jahreswagen, before stepping up.

What about Allan McNish, he has been talking about joining the DTM again, eventhough he didnt succeed last time round. But he doesnt want a one-year old car, and there is no plans (That I know of) that Audi will build five R14Plus factorycars.

If he wouldn't get a new car he'd rather get a suntan - understandable
