No need to pick on Dino - half the fun is in presenting a viewpoint & then justifying it.

I hate to put it this way, but you're all correct. Any significant rule change can lead to a new round of design changes. However, changes will be happening anyway. Whether a change is driven by rule manipulations or by general competition, all the factors enzo and dino have mentioned come into play: over-reliance on computer models, lack of valid data, shaving factor of safety, etc.
With any change from the status quo, there is a probability that the change will be a bad one. Ergo, if rules manipulations accelerate the number of changes, the probability of error increases. Probabilities, however, do not always translate into realities (you can test this in any casino) and it would be difficult if not impossible to logically prove that a particular design change led to an accident and that this design change would not have happened if the rules hadn't changed also. Of course, if the "many worlds" theory of quantum physics is correct, then all probabilities come to pass somewhere, and we're just arguing about what universe we're in. |

Well said, enzo and I agree with TecFreak's conclusion as well. I am sorry to leave you guys, but I can't post on this board from home, so until I start off the next project, I'll pass by an netcafe so now and then, like now. Cheers.

Hi guys, i've felt for awhile now that the mass shifting race is another one of the things seperating the rich guys from the poor.A minimum c.o.g.measurement+ limiting front to rear bias to some acceptable level would stop it all.But then it would't be as much fun being an engineer would it?!
Actually, one thing the fia has been totally useless at is wheel tethers.I don't accept for one second their whining that "we've put another tether on and it still dosn't work, what do you want us to do?"Just make them stronger!Who cares if the whishbone assy's end up weighing 3 times as much.I KNOW the fia can do this- they've achieved great things whith safety in the past,so they can do it again. |
