I would put the Tesla Model 3 in the "new luxury sedans" thread.

I wouldn't say it's luxury, based on price - that's what the Model S is. It's priced at the same as most of the cars in this thread. Perhaps a bit bigger than most here, but it's certainly a family vehicle. It's certainly aimed at the family car market, so it'll be interesting to see how it does.

35k is what a 320i costs in the United States. That's not the European price.

And the Civic Type R on the previous page is $33k In the US, EVs are eligible for tax breaks. Model 3 is eligable for the $7,500 tax break, bringing it below $30k. The UK deducts £4500 from the advertised price for all EVs as well, bringing that down a bit. Model 3 is just 20 cm longer than the Civic and Impreza.
I'd say it most certainly fits the family part of the thread, perhaps even more so than the Civic! I don't see a family man buying that rice box! But being an affordable family car is exactly what the Model 3 is designed to be, so that's why it'll be interesting to see how it does. |

The front grille is awful, looks like cut with an axe.
The rear bumper is a bit too overloaded, although not nearly as much as the Civic Type-R. |

I like it!
The prototype's hatch is much rounder than the Golf. By the way, the Civic is older than the Golf. |

The Civic was first and it's obviously a Honda, but the Mk1 Golf is much more iconic.
Interesting that Honda haven't even built this one. They're either so far behind with EVs, or not that interested that this concept got nothing more than a render. |

Render?
It was built and shown off at the IIAS this week, and going into production for 2019. http://www.evo.co.uk/news/19991/hond...ar-due-in-2019 |

huh! Thanks for that. Oddly, the press releases Honda sent out were just the renders of it. They never bother including photos of the actual physical thing!
I will put my neck out now and say there's absolutely no way they're actually going to build that car. 2019 and 2020 launches for seemingly thousands of EVs are just far away enough that we'll all forget about it. As awesome as that wee Mk1 Golf is, Honda are so so not building it for production. |
