To say the truth, I'm really disappointed in the way DTM goes. It remains a "Big Bosses" arena. No private teams which can not be ruled by the works one (sending mechanics to put the hp down if a non works driver is too fast), boring tracks, stupid Munich show, "pilotesses" and so on. I wished there would be a strong silhouette platform. Now I see that it goes on with the marketing as the main reason for racing. Not progress, not sporting motive.

The first picture of the final homologation version: http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=7254
It is very difficult to see the subtle changes. There are additional dive planes on the the nose and the exhaust is no longer positioned at the rear. |

No refueling recepticle (?) because no more refueling during the race. So a potential Super GT version would be different.
And that exhaust is rather high. |

As FIRE says I can't see the grid increasing in size by a lot (if at all), I suspect we'll see a situation like the last few years where the "works" teams run a new car and the others run a year old car. I'd like to be proved wrong on this one though and see at least 2 more of each marque running (year old will do!).

So wait, there's no refueling this season? That can't be, can it?

Maybe it's on the boot? That'd keep it away from the higher exhausts on the sides. Anyone got a rear view of one of the new cars?

Hmm, perhaps reading too much into it, but the fact that they are already developing a system for longer races is interesting. Of course it could be for VLN or Super GT, but I really think DTM should mix it up a bit and add two Aussie-style enduros to their schedule.

It's a longstanding wish for DTM having different types of events (100 miles of Norisring, 2 Hours of Nurburgring). But instead they put some awesome stadium rennen because most of viewers won't understand normal, almost endurance racing. They prefer "prestigious" {(c) Mr.Haug} 1 hour run and lots of pop-music before and after. Of course, I say that after watching some video at ARD site. I have a right to mistake.

I supposse the best we can hope for is that all manufacturers field a pair (or maybe more) of their DTM-cars in the 24hours at the Ring, which would make it a de facto DTM-endurance event.
It would be awesome if it was for points, but I don't think we'll be that lucky. |

It's pity they can not do something this year. They'll be at Brands Hatch on 20th of May.

Wouldn't DTM's be too 'fast' for the Nurburgring?

With what kind of restrictions in place? Weight penalties? These cars are a bit faster around tracks than GT3's.

DTM-cars are faster than GT3s over a lap on a conventional circuit , but the Ring isn't a conventional circuit. There isn't really the kind of corners where the DTM-cars supreme aero can come into play and traffic makes it even more start-stoppy, so that horsepower becomes a lot more important than downforce.

Plus back then anything that was in contention for overall wins was GT2 or similar (RSRs, the Viper, the ALMS BMW). They'd probably throw some small restrictions at DTM cars now to match the GT3s.
But I don't think we'll see any DTM cars in the 24h. All the manufacturers have GT3 cars they can run there. |
