Perhaps have a panel of judges to review the best photo from practice?

Wow, Will Power. Whats going on? Slowest so far, obviously they're going to make the race but Penske being slowest (90 mins in) is a really strange thing.

Indy qualifying is so exciting, since you aren't guaranteed a spot in the race. Everyone has gone through once now, and Dixon is holding on to the top spot. It would be pretty amazing if anybody is going to improve on that this late in the day. I assume the bottom five people will keep going out to try and improve their times, but I'm not sure how many other people will.

All four Ganassi cars in the fast nine after the first runs completed. It looks like there will be a lot of cars make 2nd/multiple attempts. Rinus already made a 2nd run and put himself up to fifth.

The sun is out and track temperatures will be up from earlier today, so it will be interesting to see what drivers can do with the change in conditions.

Palou into the wall. He had already qualified for the Fast Nine tomorrow. Can they get the car fixed in time for tomorrow, as it took a big hit?

229.228 for Will so he's coming back tomorrow in The Last Row Shootout
And then the team almost pushed him in to the wall after his run. Sato and Rossi are sitting in Lane 2 to get in the Fast 9. Enerson and Kellett, and Simona it sounds, will likely end their attempt to move up to Fast 9 with 11 min to go |

With 7 seconds to go Kellett bumped himself from 30 to the Last Row Shootout and Simona pulled out for the final run.
Edit He kept 30, NBC had it wrong to start. And Will acting like his usual idiot self that's it's not his problem someone else did it. He wasn't in the top 30 with his last 2 runs. Last edited by broadrun96; 22 May 2021 at 21:56. |

Hence Kellett was still in. He ran specifically to block Power from being able to run again. Very smart strategy. |

Kellett's time was out so that strategy was run too early. Power withdrew his time during Kellett's run when then entered Lane 1 in hopes they could get on track after Simona if Kellett got waived off like Enerson did by Indy officials. Kellett was just fast enough to not get waived off. If Power had not withdrawn Kellett would have been out and Power in.

Kellet’s strategy was only to deny Power a final run with downforce taken off. Very good thinking from someone. Simone was never likely to beat him. Power was the threat. |

No, at the END of the day the Top 30 is kept and all others are erased. NBC doesn't know the actual regs and can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground, the truck does and kept the 31-35 times as Indy did. The I'm running 30 so when my time is withdrawn I can rub 180 is NOT in the current setup, it was the pre Last Row Shootout rule. All times are kept during Saturday and if you withdraw, as required to enter Lane 1, you lose your fast time. If 30 withdraws his time to enter Lane 1 31 can take that spot if 30's time is worse.
Indy hasn't helped by changing the rule at least once every year since IRL wanted to guarantee everyone in the field. Indy Star had up to date listings and running order. But it shouldn't matter as the rule change to allow the Last Row to run almost non-stop for the entire time means Power can't possibly screw it up. He gets all the runs he needs not one and done like they've used until I think last year. |

I also never heard what was going on with Power, or the rest of the Penske cars for that matter. The contingent was led by the rookie. I still have a sneaky suspicion that at least one Penske car will be challenging for the win next week.

Seems like a very unlikely strategy to work out for Power. It could only have worked if both Kellett and Simona had waved off. If either of them made a four lap run there was no way Power was getting on track, so why would they withdraw his 229 run? I can't imagine a wave off of either of the last two runs before they had each completed at least two laps, and that would have taken more time than Kellett's four lap run. Simona barely left the pits before the gun went off. Where can we read the rule book? |
