I only ever saw one M1 at Le Mans - also in 1986. A mobile chicane, as I recall......

For pictures of group-c cars you guys should take a look at www.philstott.co.uk.
You should also come and watch the cars running in the Group-C revival next year for some real thrills. |

It's coming along well. We have just finished having a new nose made and the engine cover should be finished by christmas so we can paint it very early next year.

Just to get back to the engine question - have you gone for the V12, or the mysterious IMSA unit?

That is the million dollor question...
It's a bit up in the air at the moment. We had been planning on running the IMSA unit which is a 2.5L v6 Turbo. It's not the same engine as the npt-90 car as it has a lower centre of gravity with a lower crank and lower capacity. However, in the last week we may have sourced a V12. I can't say too much untill things are definate. If we do end up with a V12 it will be a difficult decision. The V6 will be easier to run and has the benifit of common parts with our other Nissan. We also know we can make the V6 nice and reliable by dropping the boost down. The V12 should make the car more valuable which we have to take into consideration and wouldn't it sound nice screaming down the straight at Monza. The big problem with the V12 will be reliability. I know NPTI struggled with it in period so I don't know what hope we will have. It's a tough decision, I will let people know as soon as it's been made. |

Put the v6 turbo in the group c car and then get a lola t91/92-00 indycar and put the v12 int that and use it for BOSS racing - thats what they initially tested it in after all.

I was not aware that the Nissan V12 was put in any other car than the P-35. I would love to know more if it was dropped in an Indy car. Was it raced, was it quick, are there any still around etc. Any info would be much appreciated.

They used a Lola for initial testing , I definately remember seeing it in Autosport - probably a t91 or 92 - was there nothing in that Motor Sport article about NPTI? It never actually raced like that as there was no series for it too (except Interserie with mudguards on!!)

Incidentally, 2.5l 6cyl. turbo fits the current 675 regs just fine - got a B2K/40 sitting around somewhere? Last edited by cybersdorf; 19 Dec 2002 at 15:13. |

You just have to fit the 12. Must be more reliable than last year anyway!

Hopeing for some better reliability from the other Nissan next year. The engine is down with John Nicholson now, so I have no doubt that it will be transformed. It's about time that car showed it's potential. We are hopeing that it will have a power advantage over the Jags now. Regards, Chris |

Which is more powerful? The Turbo V6, or the V12?

The V6 has far more power. The power it produces is purely dependend boost levels amd, therefore, how often you are willing to rebuild the engine. We are aiming for 800-850bhp with our other Nissan's engine and we will rebuild that every two racing seasons. The engine is capable of well over 1000bhp but that would compromise reliability.
NISMO claimed about 630bhp for the V12 although NPTI were never allowed to dyno it. The engine in the P-35 never made the claimed figures and was calculated via aero data and acceleration data to produce 520Bhp. Theoretically it should be able to make around 650Bhp but we are going to be a bit in the dark untill it's on the dyno. |

Are there any Group C/IMSA GTP cars currently being restored that we have not heard off yet. IMSA and Group C Toyotas, Mazdas, XJRs, early '90s 962s, Spices etc. with the big rear wings and such like.
There needs to be a real challenge to the Jaguars. |

He was unfortunate to have been following Jo Gartner's Porsche down the Mulsanne Straight when it flew off the track, killing poor Gartner. The story went that Viggo pulled into the pits and refused to get back into the car for the remainder of thre race. I don't know if he ever drove again. Lars Vigo actually bravely continued for 2 more hours under the pace car, but didn't drive again in the race, leaving my dad (David Mercer)to drive double stints for the remainder of the race. They finished 2nd in C2 and 11th overall. [QUOTE]Originally posted by JAG [B]Are there any Group C/IMSA GTP cars currently being restored that we have not heard off yet. Here is one of my favorites. A C2 Gebhardt from Spa 1984 (or is it 1985?)
