#8 Audi unlikely to run in FP2 as they're working on the front axle differential after it failed near the end of FP1

Toyota seem to have reacted to porsche's first session speed

some people were speculating how audi will easily be faster than anyone else. can't really understand where they got that from. but the persisting reliability issues of this car are really an even bigger concern than the fact that it's shown no speed relative to porsche whatsoever. it seems the radical design's main purpose is sheer ugliness, not performance, afterall!

If all of this stuff was without risk or could be predicted in advance, there would be no reason to actually race them to see who is actually faster! Richard |

Glad to see Toyota up at the front. I think Spa suits their car a lot better than Silverstone. Seems they have good power from the top speed charts.

Audi Sport Fan @Audi_Sport_Fan
In LMP2, interesting to see the "wild card" entry @JotaSport (from ELMS) leading the field ahead of all #FIAWEC regulars Lol As if that's never happened before, and as if "wild card" entries are something of mythic today (well I guess their extinction rate sort of is making them mythical?) |

It was actually ESM in fp1 and Manor in fp2 that lead lmp2.

Yeah but that was some tweet in mid-session
Anyway, that was interesting and encouraging stuff from Toyota, though as I've said it before, the mix of the downforce kits here isn't really making everything very clear initial performance relation wise. Kolles apparently had some bigger issue in FP1 but in the second they splitted the two Swiss, which is OK for them I suppose |

Is this the first time since 2014 that Toyota leads a session? I guess it is.
Not sure it's worth much, but a nice accomplishment to show they`re on the right track |

-You think the key to ESM winning in LMP2 is going to be Cumming's stint? ESM is the only interest in LMP2 I have.
-GTE looks like another AF Corse/Aston Martin battle. Yawn. This class is awesome at Le Mans but for the rest of the WEC season its so-so. GTLM in IMSA is much better (except for the LM24) -For whatever reason I don't care much about LMP1 this year. Maybe its because the cars and/or the liveries are bad looking. |

In gtpro vantages reach every lap speeds over 260km/h, while others are in the range of 255km/h. I guess ford #67 hit 275km/h in draft. Anyway I'm not surprised about zytek/gibson great performance! that tub design is almost as old as me and basically unupdated since 2012 or 2013! but still kicking #ss |

Just because it's a DQ doesn't mean it's a performance gain. Everything is regulated these days. I've yet to see concrete evidence how running too low improves performance, except for reducing overall drag. In today's complicated aerodynamics it can't be good to run a car outside of its intended parameters, including height. Again, look at F1 - pre-2014 cars were probably the most sophisticated in terms of underbody airflow and the cars were run much higher than in the more simple aerodynamics of the late 80s/early 90s. Same for the real ground effects era that ended in the early 80s. So I'm not sure running the R18 too low helps the underbody aerodynamics. And like you said, they could have had suspension issues. Also low tire temp. Those things don't help performance. |

Lmp1 is the closest it's been since all three of these manufacturers have entered. Seems Toyota was better in the higher afternoon temperatures and Porsche was better in the cool morning temps. Wonder how this will play out in the race? Sector 2 was bested by Toyota. #6- 54.8 and #5- 54.9 to Porsche's #1- 55.6 and Audi #7- 56.3
On Audi's plank, if it wasn't deemed an advantage, there wouldn't be a rule against too much wear on the plank. It's as simple as that. There's a lot of what-if's, but they were dq'd because of that reason. |
