Anglias

Crikey I seem to have started something! There'll be Anglias popping out everywhere! Seriously thank-you all for your help and encouragement. Zef I have replied to you, you have been amazingly helful. Peter yes I do go out just to enjoy my racing, the nearest I have ever got to winning was fifth on the grid with my old BMW 7 series! But who cares it's just great to be out there with a good bunch of people doing something that we are all privileged to be able to enjoy. Nick great to have your advice, I'll contact you, are you going to the A.G.M ? Al, we had thought of doing just that, still might be an option, depends on finances! Anyway it's pouring with rain so I'll delay getting the shell out of the shed until a dry day! Guys if you do decide to do Spa 6 hours how about an Anglia team for the Birkett?

I have decided to actually stop racing (been on the cards for a while) and did my last two races today at Brands. I had a class win this morning on a wet track that started to dry very near the end after choosing to plug for dry tyres. Unfortunately I tried the same trick this afternoon but a downpour put a stop to that and finished a fishtailing 3rd after 45 Min's but still well up overall.
I wonder if George Polley wants to buy the Anglebox back, but he's older than me

Not again! You've retired (or threatened to) more times than Frank Sinatra.

Don't do it Gordon. For various reasons I have not raced for two seasons and life is not quite the same even though the bank balance is improved - less overdraft I hasten to add, savings are for the sad people who die rich.

Sorry to hear that Gordon. I've known you a long time having first raced against you in, I think, 1989 and you've always been a good, fair racer. You have also been very successful being a champion in the early 90s.I hope you have a change of heart. I'm sure you will get pangs of 'I wish' around late September, early October each year if you do hang up your helmet for good.
Although I don't race much myself these days and leave it to the lads to pedal the Cortina I would definitely miss the buzz of anticipation of the odd race now and again. When I gave up racing in 1977 the first time around as the family was growing and I couldn't afford it the thing that kept me going was that 'one day' I would do it again and the thought of never again would be intolerable.

Celia did race the Anglia for a few years, and had a lot of fun! it has FiA papers as an Anglia saloon, and in the GT category, as an Allardette. She sold it last year to Theo Paphitis and it is now a 'Goodwood special'

FiA spec rear is lever arm dampers and leaf springs.

early LC is A frame, and coil overs, later have radius arms and leaf springs.
early GT is leaf springs only, later airflow cars had radius arms the same as Lotus

Joe I thought an Allardette was a supercharged 1340 or 1500 ?

Its a 1340 on twin SU's

or a blown 997 . . . . which could probably make pretty good power!

I bet it didn't use the chocolate crankshaft on the 1340

probably not Gordon . . . just filled the hollow bits with Filler

no Henrik . . . just leaf springs. With the available power saving weight should be a higher priority than adding it!

I found out a way to increase or decrease the rear leaf spring rate quickly and easily for those last minute weather changing conditions.
I have never seen it used on anything else in all the years that I raced and probably never will, maybe I'll have the instructions put on my grave !

Why not let us ignorant be informed, by telling us now.
I am 64, and expect many years of racing and perhaps also in an Anglia !
