yes it will be Mountunes Ford Duratec engine. They have been running this in 650bhp format in the X-games and rally cross for about 3 years now, so I expect it will have been derived from all those lessons learned.......so running it at circa 500bhp or so should not be a big task, but running for 6 to 24 hours in one stint might be a challenge.........last time I spoke to mountune was they were having trouble convincing the LMP customers that it is a legitimate LMP2 engine, despite being priced about 30% under the LMP2 price cap.......one to watch, I hope a few other teams start to run this engine, it will add a bit of variety, perhaps get Ford interested too..........As Mountune are Fords designated aftermarket tuner, they are very much in bed with each other.

Also interesting, the render features Toyota-style fender-wings. |

Lmp2 isnt allowed a full width rear wing, nor fender extensions. So the illustration should not be the look of the final car.

Are you sure about this ? I see nothing that prevents the "legal" rear wheel arch extensions "a la Toyota" to be used on LMP2s as well, but maybe I've missed something.

Thanks for pointing where exactly, that was of great help
But, you are correct, I've missed something. The relevant provision appears to be in Article 3.4.5 which pertains to the mandatory cut-outs on top of the wheel arches and which reads (emphasis added): Quote:
In other words, the illustrations of the new Pilbeam LMP2 are either erroneous or Pilbeam have overlooked something (as I did...) |

Long story short, lmp2 can not have full width rear wings nor wheel arch extensions.

Shall I take that as a compliment ?
That's not the point; neither can LMP1s... That's the point of my previous "long story" |

What? In 2014 the lmp1 cars do have full width rear wings (if they are going 1800mm). I wasn't complimenting you, I said the illustration isn't even a legal car.

The Pilbeam doesn't race this year but 2014, when they supposedly want to enter lmp2. I thought you understood that was what I was refering to since the Pilbeam rendering was the subject.

2014 will be a very exciting year for us and for Sport Prototype Racing in general. Be it single seat sport prototypes or two seat sport prototypes we are pursuing both configurations and our customers seam excited to not be shacked to the limited opportunities currently offered by IMSA and ACO. It will all become more well publicized as the PRI Convention time draws near. Thanks C Shaw |

Nice catch!
A Shaw SCT-100 and the new SCT-43ST....... The "new" "car" must be a winner indeed after 8 years of Reactive Kinematics development...... |

Interesting possibility of converting the DP BMW V8 for LMP2 use.

First drawings of the new Tiga LM214 pop up thanks to endurance-info.com.
It's a bit confusing to see those "rear wheel arch extensions" on this other LMP2 project as well, like on the new Pilbeam LMP2 If these are not supposed to be allowed on LMP2s, then the ACO-FIA should promptly clarify this issue before all LMP2 manufacturers start designing new cars with this feature. |

They'd be better outlawing them until '15 or whenever the new cars come in. If not every P2 team will be forced into that expense.

The problem is: With the designs of the older cars 'locked down' for a three year period, they would actually need a waiver from the ACO to even be allowed to update the older cars as performance upgrades to existing cars are specifically outlawed by the LMP2-regs.

I hope Tiga and Pilbeam teams race in very different liveries on track - they almost look identical.

This is a little off topic but AER's LMP2 motor has been selected for the new Indy Lights car. An engine designed to run and run must be useful for cost control. It will be de-tuned as well.

Are there any 2014 confirmed projects for the Roush Yates LMP2 engine?

Libra Racing, but you never know with them.
And the Pilbeam has a Roush Yates engine if I remember correctly, it will be raced by Zoo Racing. |
