You can't be that way if you're driving across Australia mate, one stop, don't know if it still is or not, is a shell garage and if you don't stop there you will not make it to the next station what you said I say that as a joke but I really don't care either way. I guess maybe you are joking as well. I hope so anyway. I bought an AMD CPU this year and I can now say Ferrari wouldn't have won this year without help from me I have watched F1 since I was a kid and I have never smoked and never will. What is on the side of the cars means very little to me. Last edited by MrBluesman1; 13 Dec 2003 at 10:06. |

I will also not buy AMD CPU's, they run too hot anyway. I have two Intel based computers. |

I think the branding creates awareness, not necessarily correlated to purchase behaviour.
For example, we know that Michelin and Bridgestone are now in F1, that Goodyear used to be there.... that Schuey won on Bridgestones... and that the commentators put rubbish on Bridgestone all year... But most brands in F1 you cant buy in Australia so that doesnt help..... |

The majority of people buy new tyres on price - normally just one step up from the very cheapest - often false economy .

Shell, well I use there product, but that is because I like it. Optimax helped more than one champion this year. I bet Micheal didn't pay 80p a litre though Last edited by Adam43; 14 Dec 2003 at 14:26. |

I don't smoke Marlboro, I don't use Vodafone and I never fill my car on Shell gas stations.

I personally will not use Vodaphone or AMD and refused to eat tictacs since the day they started to support Ferrari. I do not smoke but if I did it would not be Malboro. I use Michelins on my car (well it's a Renualt) but would rip them off in a heart beat if Ferrari took them on. I put up with Bridgestone for now because of CART. I also like 429CJ try not to use Shell fuels though it is my local I have I have to admit driven a Ferrari and yes they guy handing me the keys was somewhat taken aback when I asked if I had to drive it! (Though of Bador/RB to put up with it).
The main point though is marketing is about brand awarness. Take the Benetton ads from a few years back sure they where going to get banned but they got ALOT of free advertising on TV, Newspapers etc.. money can't buy style. The world of marketing is not aimed directly at the buy my product advert but more often just simply making you familuar with the product. The example earlier was Trust with Jos V. I had heard of it but I work with computers so thats not a suprise but most people had not. So rather than mainly computer people knowing Trust suddenly 1Billion (that the viewing figures for F1?) people saw teh brand. Even if you do not remember seeing the brand on teh car it will of been picked up subconcusiusly (spelling!) and so when you go to buy a keyboard you see brand x and Trust. Because the name is familuar you (no pun intended) trust the known brand. If you need further proof you go into a supermarket to but a drink of cola (the generic term but who thought of coke?) you will buy Coke or Pepsi 99 out of 100 times because you know it however good the other product is(eg I think the Morrisions stuff was good but dont shop there now so its Pepsi max for me). I mean what does Britney singing or Beckham bending it have to do with teh drink, nothing but now you know the name. :-) Last edited by Phoenix1; 15 Dec 2003 at 12:22. |

I admit it. I'm the type of fan team owners & sponsors fantasize about. Sponsor my team &, for the most part, I buy your product. Of course, since I don't smoke, cig ads have no effect on my @ all.

To be honest advertising in motorsport doesn't have an effect on me. I'm more concerned about how the car looks in their livery! I'd never take up smoking anyway, whether marlboro or any other tobacco company sponsored my favourite team / Driver, don't wanna ruin my life!
