Maguire cars

Keith,
I know you are on the hunt for Maguire car info generally,so thought you also might be interested in this cutting I found.

It's a Mini this time though !

Is this one of the other cars you own or is it the original Ginger Marshall car you have ?

Ron.

Keith,
Very interested in the Museum open day, have you got any more information on that, date, likely entries, etc ?

If enough Maguire owners could be persauded to go,perhaps we could even get the man himself to make an appearance !!

I personally would make every effort to go.

did you run James when he did C2 and Le Mans (was that the following year?) if so did I meet you at Spa last year as James had several of his old team running him in his Cobra for the 6 Hour with Don acting as Le Patron. Dinner after the race was one of those great Spa memories resulting in us almost getting thrown out of the hotel..

Group C was the end of the Halycon Days of racing sadly

Keith:
I think several people would like to know about a meeting of these great race cars.
I have a connection with my Lola that had the only other Ghia body on it off Dr Enderby's moulds.
Body now long gone but i hope the spirit of the car has been carried on.

Would like to meet Clive and Driftwood as I owe them a gallon of beer each for their help.

David still has his car in the garage but it hasn't run in years. There were moulds taken, Clive and David mocked up the body on a real Karmann Ghia then moulds were taken from that. David still has the moulds somewhere.
We must try and persuade him to get the car out if this bash at the museum goes ahead.

I too would be delighted to see as many special saloons out as possible if the bash happens.

I believe they have a test track at the museum, even better if some could do a few demonstration runs !!

There must be lots of them still around, I have been looking through some late 70's/early 80's entry lists, and i'm staggered by the number of cars that used to run, particularly in the up to 1000cc classes.

Here's another Maguire car cutting that I kept, a bit more info for you Keith.

Driftwood,

I think it was one of the early chassis.

I do remember a story that was circulating at the time, that Mike Parkes had 'an off' in this car during a test day at Silverstone, do not know if there was any truth in it though, anyone ?

Another JM chassis

Came across another cutting that ties in with this photograph I took in the Castle Combe paddock circa '80/'81.

Is that Doc Enderby I see lurking in the background ?

Has anyone got any idea how many Mini, Imp, Skoda & Lotus chassis the John Maguire crew built ? I seem to keep finding them everywhere ?

I don't think it is David, very like him and he did have a beard for a while but pretty sure it's not.

Maguire Mini of Richard Matossian, Forrestburn Hill Climb (Central Scotland)in April 2007. I don't know the engine type, but he was competing in the
up to 1400cc class.

No, I think that the Richard Matossian car was previously campaigned by Dave and Sandy Robertson. See car 259 below, picture taken when the Robertsons contested the Doune Hillclimb in June 1994.

Last year, I heard that Duncan Laing still had the Sprintex supercharged A series powered car which he and Donald Laing competed in for many years.I could only find one (poor) photo of it, from Doune in April 1990, number 66.

The third image is of Donnie and Calum MacKillop's Lotus twin cam powered version, number 115, from an August 1993 event at Kames (Muirkirk) . This car was later sold to Japan.

Another Imp found

Found an old programme from Mallory Park.

It lists another Maguire Imp in the hands of Jeff Ward, I didn't realise his was a Maguire car aswell.

Is that the Peter Day Fiat on the front of the programme ? whoever it was he was a brave boy !!
