A shame the race ended already at lap 166 because of the rain but with Franchitti they have a good winner. Congrats to him.
BTW In Holland they showed the full race. |

That was awsome.
Franchetti had some long runs at the front, prooving he was atleast as worthy as Rice. The look on his face, was almost as good as Gil Deferran's when he won. Amazing, amazing stuff. Is it just me, or is Ms. Judd awsome? |

To be fair to Marco I think the blame lies with his spotter. Sucks that it had to end that way, but congratulations to Dario. It's nice to see a guy win who is in awe at what just happened when he wins the Indy 500. And his wife is either very much in love with him, or she's taking some very happy pills.
Entertaining race as always. |

Marco said afterwards that he had a problem with his right side mirror that they had been unable to correct during the race. He apologized for taking out the folks he hit.
As far as Mrs Franchitti, she impressed me by saying that at that moment (as he was on the last lap in the rain) she was sure that Dario was thinking of Jimmy Clark. The woman is not on happy pills at all and has apparently taken some time to learn about the history of the sport. Full credit to her, I say. |

However, yes, she is a classy woman. She seems to have a knowledge of what her husband is doing which is great and very unusual I have to say. You'd think she would at least be a self absorbed, actress type but no! She also has an awareness of what goes on during the race. I know a lot of wives/girlfriends don the headsets to listen to the communications between their man and the team, but I bet 90% of them don't really take much interest in it. Ashley - will you marry me? And Hazza, I am still grinning and may need surgery to have it removed. |

Looks like the final tv rating is a 4.3, a downward slide of almost 20%.

Well, the TV numbers are certainly integral to a discussion of the starting grid at the 500!
Mods, can you cut and paste that into a thread of it's own so we can examine our navels about the tv ratings? Thanks. |

Well we could discuss ChampCar's spiraling TV ratings, but then again, you can't dip under "Rock Bottom".

Ooooh saucer of milk for the mod above me pls
How about someone takes the reference to the starting grid off of this thread title, since there isn't another Indy 500 race weekend thread anyway. |

I'm lucky...
I live here and attend the race every year, then when I arrive home, the ABC affiliate broadcasts the entire event on tape in the evening....I see it live in-person, then the full telecast that night.... |

The last few pages havent been about the starting grid but that didnt seem to warrant a post from you ? TV ratings about the 2007 Indy 500 are highly relevant to the discussion going on in here. Just because they are down does not mean it should not be said. |

Not defensive at all.
No, I did not post anything about the direction of the thread as there was no "race discussion thread" and the racing itself was being discussed. Since the racing bit is subsequent to the starting grid bit it seemed to be a natural progression. Then, lo and behold, a bit of flame appears where the TV numbers (which were, I am sure, first and foremost on Dario's mind during those last few laps) are casually posted. Now, I agree they are worthy of discussion but in their own thread. As that poster well knows, the facility provided here for starting a new thread is marvelously easy to use. Apparently, the TV numbers were a bit of news so exciting that it was necessary to dash in and drop them off even though no one had expressed the slightest curiosity about them. |

At the end of every NA Open Wheel race these days, spectator and tv numbers are discussed as you could see by most race threads. I am sure if they were higher others here would have been sprouting them for the tree tops, whats wrong with some objectivity and consistency within these walls. |

Can the TV slide not be attributed to rain delays and suchlike though?
It's all just pointless conjecture. Everyone is aware of the state of play in American open wheel competition. It is very sad, but it doesn't pay to have it rammed down your throat all the time. |
