quick calcs result in 1397.2cc.
And I concur with B1ackcr0w, great fun and the one I had stuck like glue and went like pooh off an earth moving implement!!

Smoking calculators!!! I bow to your mathmatical abilities, but as a French teacher, I could never dream of equalling them. But that gtti sounds great, I remember reading about them in Fast Lane in the late eighties, they loved them too.

I wont do the calcs but the engine size is actually 993 cc not 998 as i stated

Answering the original question i would suggest ringing around a few specialists for advice on what to do to get the most out of the car and how much it will cost.

for example im a recently proud owner of a 106 xsi for the sub 1400cc MODprod class and i have spoken to 2 specialists shenpar racing and Richard Longman. They have told me too concentrate on getting the existing power to the ground (gearbox and LSD) handling, braking and weightsaving. Then focus on the engine last so you can get used to a good handling car first (as smooth is quick) so you can make the most of the power after. They gave figures of a maximum cost to get the very most out the car within the regs between £8k and £12k. not cheap i know but it is a long term project.

not racing this year due to finances and getting the car race ready (i bought it SORN so cant do road going class) but i will either race in the curborough sprint championship 2010 or the midland speed championship 2010 depending on finances again. At worst ill do some trackdays or join a club and go to various events ill see closer to the time.
