Or perhaps Mr Stroll is more talented than we have been led to believe, and that with Mr Massa arguably past his best, low percentage conditions will usually favour the brave....

SV isn't as good in the wet as the credit he gets. He seems to get it based on Monza 2008 but there's actually been plenty of races where SV was just average in the wet. He's a bit 50/50. Hamilton is the main driver who is always fast in the wet.
Alonso, Hulk not bad. Verstappen could have some good speed in the wet but too early to tell, give him a few more years and several more wet races so we can see how he goes. So, rain the big equaliser... yet we've got Stroll way ahead of Massa the almost 2008 champ, Ocon way ahead of Perez, Vandoorne a few positions clear of the great one Alonso who's great in the wet. Hulk nowhere, the Ferrari's asleep. What an odd result. Except Hamilton and Verstappen 1-2. |

Well I'm glad Lewis broke the record by setting the fastest time, not by being inherited due to these same old penalties. And what a lap to do it in.
Despite the penalties, it's good to see Stroll and Ocon up there, Ocon can hopefully have a trouble free weekend and remind everyone what a future talent he is. And after all Stoffel's efforts it's wasted by him getting a penalty... |

So has anyone got a penalty for having too many penalties yet?
If the race is dry, the mixed up grid should add some interest, as far as I am concerned. And congratulations to LH on getting the 'poles' record, that was a very impressive lap...... |

The final grid thus lines up: 1. Hamilton, 2. Stroll; 3. Ocon, 4. Bottas; 5. Raikkonen, 6. Vettel; 7. Massa, 8. Kvyat; 9. Magnussen, 10. Perez; 11. Ericsson, 12. Wehrlein; 13. Verstappen, 14. Hulkenberg; 15. Sainz, 16. Ricciardo; 17. Palmer, 18. Vandoorne; 19. Alonso, 20. Grosjean. So Perez qualifies 11th, gets a 5 place penalty, so starts 10th? |

A fairly clean and uneventful start, though some bodywork came off further down the field and what a difference a day makes, nice and sunny.

Jeez Alonso certainly didn't like Palmer not giving the position back, still going on about it several laps later even then Palmer is over a second a lap faster. What's the point of getting the position back, Palmer will only pass him again on the straight. Freds lost the plot lol

Congrats to Lewis, not the most scintillating race.
I can't remember hearing howls of derision from the Tifosi quite like that, directed at Hamilton. Last edited by bjohnsonsmith; 3 Sep 2017 at 13:51. |

As for the race, it was dissapointingly boring. The mixed up starting grid had promise, but all it really did was let Hamilton and Bottas skip away. Ferrari has either taken a step backward of late or Mercedes have improved because Ferrari really hasn't looked to be on Mercedes level lately. |

Nice jab by Hamilton by saying it was better having a Mercedes engine rather than a Ferrari engine on the podium interview. I got a kick out of that. Way more entertaining than his usual patronizing of the *insert circuit here* fans.

The positions in the overview in the top left corner of the screen were correct, as were the time differences to the then-current P1. The laptime of the P1 driver was incorrect though. If he had a faster Q2 time then the Q2 time was displayed. That was the case for Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas when they got to P1, but not for Ricciardo when he had provisional pole (as he beat his Q2 time) So, for Hamilton a 1:34 was displayed when he actually had a 1:37. Hamilton's 1:34 was then bettered by Ricciardo with a 1:37 (slightly faster than Hamilton's 1:37). That was ... odd ... |

What a drive by Lewis, the Honey Badger and Stroll, all on top of their cars today. Ocon as well
As for the Verstappen/Magnussen incident, I feel Kevin was late into the corner, but still Max maybe should have left a bit of leeway, as Kevin could have creamed into the back of him |
