At the end of the day, we missed the Baby Faced Assassin's favourites: 'no doubt about that', and it's close relative, 'undoubtedly'. The more doubt there is, the more likely you'll hear them.
If you want to play the 'pick the words and phrases' game, and get reeelly drunk, wait until the post race interviews and see how many times 'the boys' get a mention. I don't think anyone can drink that quickly. |

And who is the one that says 'allude' when he means 'said'? Craps me off no end that does. Must send Baz the URL for this thread - he'll love it! Bruce Moxon |

You're not wrong, Mike - I mean Bruce. Sorry, the DJ in-car camera had a profound effect on me.

And while we're at it, let us all not forget to "reset our throttle pressures" as we move-off from an intersection on the drive home tonight.

Perhaps it would spice things up if there was a way we could do something similar with the Channel Seriouslly boys. |

Now you've done it. Denis is my all-time favourite!!!!!
Try these on for size... "Adam Yze - a terrific player... terrible Scrabble hand" or "That was a Rock Hudson kick. It looked straight but it wasn't." |

And the one you all forgot, a Cromptonism picked-up by Greg Rust on Sunday: the team bunker. Touche!

Neil's using "personification" to try and relate all things motorsport to the people. Personally, having come through university, I wish some of my lecturers had done the same thing!!!
To say that the track's "Personality" is changing, instantly tells us that the way it reacts to different turn ins, temperature changes, etc, is different to what it was previously, as a person's personality may change in a different situation. Saves alot of explaining, if you ask me. Overused they might be, but I personally appreciate it.... That said, I do like the idea of the drinking Bingo! Bring on 2005! (PS - How drunk would we be if we'd done this with Good ol' Murray in F1? ) |

Another one that's probably only worth a half or quarter point. It's used everywhere, and our V8 drivers are no exception. Sorry, but I still think it's value at a half-point (and half a drink): "To be totally/absolutely/completely honest..."
There's one more I should mention. This is a full-value (two points) one. You don't hear it all that often, but it's starting to get legs. "The effective leader." It was born as a result of those compulsory pit-stops, when everyone is asking 'Who's leading?'. Anyway, if you spot it, two points, (and two standard drinks, of course). Cheers (There's another one). |

Not commentary really, but when drivers are asked how their weekend is going, or will go, they always answer:
We are really looking foward to this race because we are coming off the back of a 28th place at the last racer OR The car is handlling really well |

What about when a BJR Falcon has been spun or reduced to a pile of rubble, and a very sad looking Kim Jones comes on the screen and says...."the OzeMail team is going forward".

And who can forget Mark Oastler's "Battle Group" and Mike Raymond's "freight train" to describe groups of cars. And while we're at it, Raymond's "as they cross the stripe" to mean another lap has been completed.

Actually I always took that as cross the "strike" so if it was "stripe", then maybe that would explain why I never really got the meaning of his phrase for ten years of ATCC! hrug:

What about Cromley's classic ( The car set changes due to weather & track conditions).

Just thought of one of my own. Doing course (or is that 'coarse') commentary at Oran Park about 20 years ago.
Went something like this, as a guy with a sports sedan had a major lose over the Dogleg... "Fah - ah Jes - ahhh - cr - aahhh - sh - ahhhhhh" Co-commentator "goodness, that was a big one." BM |

I've just watched EC Race 3. Yeah, I know, well after the event. Still, there's always something out of left field for us commentator-groupies. Amongst all the usual force-of-habit sayings, you can usually find something really silly. Stick your hand up when you hear it, and tell everyone else that they have to down three drinks.
From Eastern Creek, Race Three, I present the really silly saying: (It started off with Cromley asking: "Is that rain I see on the left side of the screen?") Answer from Bill Woods (really silly, definitely a three-drink penalty to all the others when you spot it): "It's either that, or a rampant seagull that has had too much to drink." Go Billy. Really silly. A worthy winner of the 'Really Silly' award. If you can spot the next 'Really Silly' saying, you could leap-frog all the others looking out for 'at the end of the day', 'undoubtedly', 'The boys did a magnificent job' type one-point stuff. |
