The Rick Scarf car was the G Moore HDT car and the coin and bullion car of Ray Smiths was a HDT car, in actuall fact HDT were late in finishing the car off so Ray Smith had Co Driver (Denny Hulme) old F1 crew finish the build.

Ray Smiths car (then Crosby) was Perkins built is my info. It is currently at Les Small's getting an engine rebuild.

Did the Crosby car run Momo or Dymag wheels? LP used to use (recommend) Dymag wheels.

The Crosby car ran 16 x 10 MOMO wheels same as the Mobil cars infact it was the only HDT customer car to have the 5 stud MOMO's as the Jagparts and Alf Grant car both ran centre lock BBS wheels, Larry did build some motors for Croz back in 86.

I did hear that the car was down at Les Small's at the moment i also heard a whisper that the Roadways VK Group C was also down there waiting a restoration back to it's former glory.

I read that in the 85 Bathurst book too, that it was Perkins-built. That said, could the car have been built at HDT whilst Perkins was still there? Although, even if that were the case it seems odd to refer to the car as being Perkins-built. I take it the car doesn't have a PE chassis number, seeing as it pre-dates Perkins' customer-car business.

WD Jr, I guess it would have been hard (but not impossible) for LP to build the car ex-HDT as I think he left HDT in July 1985 but I don't know how long he "had off" before he joined DJR.

If chassis 1 - 7 were Group Cs and 15-17 VLs, presumably there were 7
HDT VKs built in 85/86.

The 1st Group A VK was debuted by Brock and Perkins in New Zealand in
January 85, albeit in the livery of a finance company. A 2nd VK was built for John
Harvey and was debuted by Brock at the Surfers Paradise round of the ATCC
as # 7.

For 86 there were 2 VKs for the ATCC. # 3 was driven throughout the
series by Harvey and 05 by Brock or when there was a clash with the ETCC
program, Neal Lowe. Whether these were new cars or the 85 cars I am
not sure.

For the ETCC campaign a brand new VK was built for Brock and Moffat to
race. A second VK was entered at the Spa 24 Hour as # 6 for Lowe /
Kent Baigent / Graham Bowkett, but whether this was one of the ATCC cars
or another chassis I am not sure. I recall that at one round (possibly
the Silverstone TT) John Cleland drove the HDT VK as # 41, possibly
because this clashed with the Sandown 500.

During 86 one of the 85 chassis was sold to Graham Moore who raced it
at Bathurst with Michel Delcourt in 86 and 87.

Presumably HDT only had access to 2 chassis at Bathurst in 86 as they
elected to repair 05 after it was severely damaged in Friday practice,
rather than go to a spare when such practice was allowed. This would
also explain why after Scott wrote off chassis 14 at Lakeside, Brock moved to 6 and
no second car appeared until VL chassis 16 debuted.

Yes, John Cleland drove with Vince Woodman at the '86 TT at Silverstone, as #39. The car was backed by Mobil, but with no 'Holden Dealer Team' stickers on it.

The race didn't clash with the Sandown 500 because Allan Grice raced in both the TT and at Sandown. Silverstone was a week before i think. Brock and Moffat were planning to do that race even up until testing for the Spa 24 Hours, but for whatever reason the car ended up being run by GM Dealersport for Cleland and Woodman.

I have seen an ex Bob Morris torana at the York motor museum which is a small town about 100 kms away from Perth. There are some other great cars there including AJs title winnig F1 Williams and one of Jacky Stewarts Tyrells, then again all those cars may well be in the new motor museum in Fremantle which is owned by the same guy.

I have also seen an ex Wayne Negus Torana which was owned by a bloke called Paul Kramer who was the manager for the Kosteki engine centre in Morley WA, I know he dosn"t work there now.

Dodge, the guy is Peter Briggs, a fair punter in his own right back pre Wanneroo in an MGB at Caversham then at Wanneroo bought the Norm Beechey HK Monaro & had some epic battles against Gordon Stephenson in the ex Cusack, Allen Mustang 350GT-R.
Briggsy also raced Admirals Cup (yachting ) for Aus, & at a historic meet at Philip Island a few years back was lucky to survive a prang in the Maybach.

Onya Briggsy!

Starions:

I don't know which one, but one ended up in Tasmania (Group'C' will have more detail).

Owners/custodians from my recollections:

Scotty Taylor
Stephen Bell
Graeme Brown
Dean Crosswell

Used on and off in local racing, last seen in results here:
http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...3/2004.BASK.Q2

Edit note: Group C is a common user name, had to pick the right one for you .

Are you sure that this is an Ex Group A car?

The Coltspeed Starion made an appearance at EC last year, however I dont believe this was a factory car, but it might have been?

Ron Masing is the owner/driver of this Starion, and I assume Coltspeed, and I have been lead to believe it was always his car, or at least he drove it, but possibly didnt qualify, at Bathurst in the late 80s.

However it may have been another's beforehand.

Can't find any proof at the moment, but it is my recollection that it was a Group A car. I certainly remember it as a factory car and that it was running slicks and other goodies that wouldn't have been welcome in Group E.

Does anyone know if full Bathurst entry lists (say 88 - 92) are available on line, I'd expect to see Scotty running it there.

The one Kevin Bartlett used at Bathurst in 1984 and during the ATCC in 1985 (and was presumebly one of the '85 Bathurst cars as well) was used in Group E during 1984. Colin Bond did the same with his original Network Alfa Romeo GTV6, ran it in Group E during 1985 then upgraded it to Group A specs for Bathurst 1984 (though this car was not as fast as the Luigi-built GTV6 that ran alongside Bond's, driven by AJ, in 1985 ATCC)

The last Starion to start an ATCC round was the one at Symmons Plains in 1992, where it ran at the tale of the field (was white with an orange nose), could this be the Coltspeed one?

If it was Tassie.. it was more than likely Roger Hurd and Scotty Taylor doing the driving....
