Hmmm. A full fortnight without a post. And not many more in the subforum. Are we all still in that familiar post-Le Mans depression.....?

What? You mean there's other motor racing as well as Le Mans?

I think the answer to "what do we talk about?" is to natter on about what dates the race will be and what cars will be in it and what we will and won't do again next year and and and...
I will settle for just getting there. I am halfway to having enough points to do it for free. keke |

The long wait is not being helped by the fact that I'm 90% certain I'll be missing Silverstone due to work. Absolutely gutted!

Well, maybe this is something worth discussing. It looks like the Mulsanne straight and chicanes have been repaved.
http://www.lemans.org/en/races/24h/update/New_surface_for_Hunaudieres__Mulsanne_straight__4679.html I wonder if this could have any impact on the racing in the future in terms of change in smoothness of the transitions between the straight and the chicanes, the crown, tire wear, and overall lap times. My guess is that it won't be a huge deal, but it is something new to wonder about. |

Thanks for that AGD - is it really 22 years since it was last resurfaced?

That's what it sounds like. The surface still looked pretty good on TV for being 22 years old, but the TV images can certainly hide reality! Also, it says the shoulders will be repaired. I wonder what kind of repair work they are doing exactly.

Hmm does this mean it will be less bumpy? . I love seeing the cars bounce a bit running down Mulsanne.

It'll certainly reduce laptimes - more grip in 3 critical braking/turning/accelerating zones.

The shoulders will surely need to be built up to the new level as the new tarmac looks about 50mm higher than the shoulders. I would want to run off that at 200mph

That will certainly take some getting used to on the TV pictures. Surely it will be pretty noticeable.
Also could be ironic that resurfacing could lead to further work if it shaves yet more seconds off the lap time... Hopefully not as that's not something anyone likes talking about. |

Help Wanted! I am doing a talk about the Le Mans race and would like to find a source of results over the whole period from 1923 to now including class wins. Easy to find overall winners but not class wins I am finding. Porsche for example claim a total of 98 wins in all classes, how does anyone else compare?
Any ideas, prefer access on the internet but may buy the right book Thanks |
