In May this was also reported by MsA, see page 1 of the Valencia race topic. Their website isn't very helpful: www.lgt-engineering.com
First see then believe.

What's LGT's history in motorsport?

Better known as TI Circuit Aida, host of the Formula 1 in '94 and '95. Unfortunately this circuit isn't owned by a big manufacturer, that would give us a hint of what manufacturer they are trying to get in with this move.

Sure it does. No manufacteror owns it - means none is interrested in joining!

Or looking on the bright side - more than one wants to join but only if they don't race at a rival manufacturer's track.

Would have to be Mazda then, as Nissan doesn't have a car suitable for WTCC at the moment. Not in Europe at least.

That it doesnt sell well and that it's at the end of its lifetime. Wouldn't make any sense whatsoever for Nissan to invest money in a car that isn't popular and where there isn't any time to make it popular through racing either because its due to be replaced by a new model.

hmm... that's interesting. It's a top 10 car here in Finland... Sells much more than any of those models competing in WTCC regularly.

Looks like a BMW to me!

There may be at least two of these in the BTCC next year... But that's another story!

Was mentioned at the weekend that the BTC Lexus would be re-shelled with the new shape? Like you say though, BTCC not WTCC.

LGT isn't the Tim Blake project is it? If so, I think we can take it with a pinch of salt.

Nice car. And IIRC with rear wheel drive. RWD + diesel-torque, will be interesting at the standing starts!

Any rumours about the drivers?

Ryton, whose previous experience includes designs for the Ferrari, Minardi and Tyrell F1 teams, heads up the design department, working on both the motorsport and Lexus road car programmes.
Is LGT a Lexus tuning company like Abt for VAG? Or are there official links with Lexus?

Technical director Ryton is an experienced F1 designer (mainly at the smaller underfunded teams). Short bio at grandprix.com

he was behind the oriignal BTCC Lexus project from 2001- intended 2 cars, for Kurt Luby & Thomas Erdos, car originally run by ABG Motorsport. The rough story of the season was split with ABG Motorsport early season, team became TotalMotorsport Racing, 2nd car never got beyond a bare shell, Luby quit and was replaced by Erdos, who was replaced by Autocar journalist Steve Sutcliffe at last round of the year....Several rumoured revivals of the project since (2002, 2004?), none of which ever turned a wheel....

That's great news, although there seems to be no word on whether Toyota will get invovled.
