The car Ian Skailes owned in 1968/9 is DBE -79 ,now in my ownership and raced with great verve by Andy Newall and somewhat more sedately by me over the last couple of seasons . I have a pretty full history file , although I understand from a conversation with Ian a couple of years ago that he has an extensive scrapbook of photos relating to its first year of competition around Europe

Ross Warburton

i am awaiting John Ruston's post telling me that it is the lowest B 8 he has ever seen !

John needs a low B8, just to be able to look over it.....

BTW, this is 79, shot by yours truly in 2006 at Laguna Seca, during the Historics, and two years later at the Le Mans Classic. Is the posted history correct?

yes, as far as I know , and supported by the history file that Francois Castaing gave me, the history is spot on . The Le Mans classic photo is the JCB car which Andy also drives .

Thanks for the confirmation, however something is puzzling me. The Bamford car according to information supplied by the organisers of the LMC was Chassis 79.....

I think the ( LMC ) organisers must have been a bit confused. My entry wasn't accepted ; the JCB car was , as it has period Le Mans history . But Andy Newall will know the JCB chassis number - I'll ask him

Thanks, that would explain it, I did not see the Bamford plate while shooting in the paddock. Interestingly the frame/tubes of the Bamford car is the same dark blue as your car.

Looking forward to the number of the Bamford car to get my filing straight.

The JCB Chevron B8 chassis number is 78.

The pictures are of the car on a French street, being prepped prior to the Le mans week

There are several references in MN in the summer of 1970 (by different reporters) that Adrian Wilkins was racing the ex-David Good B8. At the same time Reg Phillips was also hill climbing an ex-David Good B8. I believe David Good's first B8 (yellow) is the Peter Lawson and Reg Phillips car and his second B8 (orange) the Adrian Wilkins car. It is possible that Peter Lawson may have done a hill climb in the second David Good B8 as cars were frequently shared/lent, but I doubt if Peter Lawson owned the second B8.

MONDELLO MAN should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
[QUOTE=Alan Brown;2585583]Two “ex-racing” B8s debuted on the Galway Rally in February 1973. One was driven by Alec Poole (+ Fennell) registered 44 JRI and the other by Mick Dolan (+ Blaney?). The former retired with a blown engine and the latter with suspension problems. (MN 15-2-73 and 22-2-73)

Both were entered on the Circuit of Ireland but Alec Poole changed his entry. Mick Dolan and Jim O’Brien’s car sported a ‘shortened “Monaco-type” nose. On one stage they had to use a narrow tyre on the back when one of the 14 in wide ones punctured.
(MN 3-5-73)

Can they be identified?
The Dolan car was ex Richie Heeley , will check on the Poole car , pretty sure it came from the UK.

I don't know who Heeley bought his car from. The other two Irish B8s that appeared at the start of 1970 were both 1969 cars owned by Eddie Regan (ex-Paul Ridgway) and Ed Negus (ex-Guy Edwards/Mike Franey). It was said that Regan was going to share his car with Alex Poole.

Hugh Colman has owned his car for ten years and it is an Arch Motors car, hence the unusual chassis number 76A-B8-6915-AM384 . It is believed to be David Good's second later B8, and there is still evidence of the original yellow paintwork beneath the black. The car was once used as a roadcar in Canada, and it was driven for the first time yesterday at Mallory Park by Hugh's son.

Who used it as a road car in Canada Tony? Was that when Ken Coupland had it?

B6 & B8

Here's a couple of Golden Oldies for you.

1st one is Fred Operts first association with Chevron

2nd one to me is a far better photo than used in David Gordons Book.

Daytona........1967

Just to add to Fred "O"s Chevron.

If you look at the entry for Daytona it is down as a Valvoline Special & entered as 2 litre Prototype.

Thomspon McClurg B6

I understand there were only 7 B6's wondering if anyone knows owt about the one driven by Nick Thompson and Sean McClurg at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting this year ?

The chassis number and original owner would be great anything else would be a bonus

I can't help on the Nick Thompson/Sean McClurg car but I may be able to help on quantities. Chevron records suggest seven 1967 Chevron GTs were built (retrospectively called B6s but that name wasn't applied until late 1968) but I have only ever been able to find six such cars racing: the cars of Peter Taggart, Digby Martland, Derek Bennett, Ian Turnbull/Arthur Moore, John Bridges and Alan Harvey. I have also failed to find any evidence that the cars had chassis numbers in period so you may end up having to call them 'the Taggart car', 'the Martland car', etc.
