avro should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Garry, Why are the rates differant to the foreign racers ?, and what are the conditions for the tyres ?.

My understanding is that most of the foreign race teams tend to be better funded that teams at our level here in the UK, or maybe I'm missing something.

Reason why there is a different rate for foreign drivers is that they obviously have a lot further to travel and their expenses will be greater than ours.
Conditions for the tyres is that you have to buy 4 tyres to get the 2 free ones.
I am not aware that any foreign teams are better funded than us as all the drivers interested are club drivers the same as us.

We now have a provisional time table for this meeting.
There will be 1 x 30 min Qualifying at 10.30am and 1 x 25 min race at 3pm on the Saturday and 1 x 25 min race at 11.30am and 1 x 30 min final at 3pm on the Sunday.
There is also a pit lane walkabout on the Sunday lunchbreak.
There will be 3 classes for 2 litre normally aspirated super tourers (a) 1997-2002, (b) 1993-1996, (c) 1990-1992,
(d) invitation class for Touring cars from 1990 that do not comply with the other classes including older DTM cars.
Technical scrutineer will have final say on whether a car is acceptable to this class.
We have interest from 20 cars at the moment and hope to have at least 22 cars.

Hi Garry, no sign of Terry's 2001 Alfa 156 on that list yet...

or even the 1998 Alfa 156 that is up in Scotland.

I heard that it was for sale.
The 1998 156 has also been for sale (and unused) for over 2-years now!
It is a shame that Terry has never raced it since he got it 18-months ago...

Graham Coomes has no one to run him for snetterton and does not want to use his spare engine for snet as he is doing well in the Dutch Super Car Challenge. Keith and Barclay are on Holiday that weekend.
Th e1998 156 is now owned by someone else who does not have the money to run it this year but should be out next year in Formula ST.

It was one of the Mondeos that Andy Rouse originally built, that Alvin bought, possibly one of the cars that Paul Radisch (spelling) raced to world cup success. Part of the package was a development engine that was at 2.2litres. From what I have read it is no more powerful but has improved torque characteristics.

Alvin used to race the car in Formula Saloons and has doen this year in the Welsh racing drivers series, and I think is one of the cars on the front page of the Formula Saloons website.

Hope that helps.

But ST didn't allow 2.2L? Does that mean there was internal discussions about increasing the displacement? Why else would Ford develop such an engine?

Didn't think the 2.2 was a Ford development.

Part of the reaon for now using that engine is (in thery) cost and durability. It's not as highly developed as a proper ST engine and therefore less expensive to build/maintain.

The 2.2 was used for the world cup races. There are other 2.2 engines around but we have a way now of checking if an engine is a 2.2.

A couple of Belgians who have a Super Tourer:

Dries Heyman: Volvo S40 '97 Belgian Race Invest(currently races in Belcar)
Contact info: http://users.pandora.be/driesco/Website/contact.htm

Marc Lupant: BMW 320i '97 Euromaster Racing (I don't have any contact details)

Our teams has a '96 BMW but it has been modified for endurance racing and now has a 3.2l engine, other aero package etc. We do have some spares.

HJC thanks for the info, I will try to contact them. Your car would be eligible for the invitation class if you are interested.
I have spoken to the organiser of the Pirelli Super Touring Car Championship and they will should have 4 cars joining us as they do not have enough cars to run on their own. This will take the grid above the 20 mark.

Was every ST team allowed to run 2.2L for the World Cup? But wouldn't a 2.2L engine give some teams a power advantage over the 2L teams?

2.2L only gives torque advantage and not power. Ultimately this would be slightly quicker so if we found an engine to be a 2.2 we would either move it to the invitation class or increase the minimum weight of the car.
