Well make the things look attractive to Joe Public would be a damned good start, thats just horrible and even as a racer I'm not inspired, sorry and I dread to think what a potential sponsor would think. Just how do these people always seem to get it so wrong, the ASCARS did'nt look much but beautiful compared to that thing, its just disgusting a little boy with a crayon would do a better design job, go back to the drawing board before you launch for God's sake or it won't happen (again).

Now this is pretty full NASCAR spec built on a Banjo Matthews tubular chassis a Penske run IROC, and I have one of the sister cars in my garage and this hit the tracks in 76/77 shown here at Riverside. If they could do it then why not now!

Bob Riebe User has been fined for unsportsmanlike behaviour!
Now if he wants something interesting, Bentley still uses the Rolls-Royce push-rod V-8.
As body shape is make believe to begin with, one could put a Bentley V-8 in one of these cars and add a little class; at the same time Mercedes used two-valve heads until recently, and the OHC set-up would in reality be of zero advantage.

I am sure a little euro blood added to this odd series would only spice things up.

V8 Stars, here we go again!

Are we talking 100K Dollars/Euro's/Pounds?

Al, it doesn't have to be a Dodge Charger - you could run a Ford Fusion which will be recognised by all of those Fusion owners in Europe.... errrrr no, perhaps it won't... or a Chevy Monte Carlo......

The other thing I read into it, is it ties in with "The Car of Tomorrow" becoming the new cup car, and the old cup cars becoming the 'new' Busch cars, and the old Busch cars being put on a boat and sent to Europe......

Still, if they come to Rockingham in large numbers, it'll be nice to see (and hear).

Rob.

It's Dodge only. $100k for the car. Near $1m annual budget per car. Alu bodies are $40k etc.

Good questions kelvin88.

On the one hand you have to say the people involved are credible and I know it has been planned for far, far longer than it has been in the public domain.

On the other hand, it's clearly a big and ambitious project.

I suppose if those backing it want it to happen, it will.

As for Team West-Tec, as (I think) the only professional oval race team in Europe, you'd have to assume there is a mutual attraction between the team and ASCE...

Thanks for correcting me John.

If it's Dodge only, then my first line said it all.

V8 Stars all over again.

Well, that's actually encouraging.

V8 Star ran for at least three years I can remember and had about 28 points-scoring drivers in at least one of those years.

I wonder which track in Sweden they are thinking about. Since it isn't marked by name on the map on the website, I'm guessing it's the Viking Raceway project they're looking at.

Me thinks alot of this is pye in the sky.
A good idea but it will take massive investment for this to take off.

What annoys me is that ASCAR was on the up, then they got rid of Ashley Pover who had done so much to make the events a great family day out. Suddenly it was nothing because people decided they wanted the it to be taken more seriously.

This kind of racing is great because its theatre, you have to have the characters, you have to have the entertainment. Its all a package that makes 40,000 people want to have a good day out.

The 'Pover' dynasty were pushing promotion so much they were even helping people find the sponsorship to set up teams. Suddenly though it all stopped.

Totally agree about pover and what about Gavin wills?
I think he could of made a big differance.
And why would Dodge want to throw loads of money at a unborn series when it can go to the DTM?

ASCE is probably cheaper for Dodge.

At www.autosport.nl there's an interview with Jochen Mass. At the moment ASCE is revealing their plans at the Professional Motor Sport World Expo in Cologne.
  • Using Nextel Cup cars like the Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus [He means Ford Fusion?] and Chevrolet Monte Carlo
  • Cars powered by Busch engines
  • ASCE has contact with teams who build and supply these cars: Evernham and Petty for Dodge, Roush for Ford and Hendrick for Chevrolet
So it's no Dodge only series

The ASCE website is updated. They have added the logos of Sunoco, Dodge and Goodyear. There's also a link to a blog were you can leave a message.
