I too remember seeing, in MN, a report mentioning that WW was to get a "new Chevron" for Atlantic that year. I wonder what went wrong, perhaps he saw that Jeffrey's car wasn't going that well, and decided to go for the, presumably cheaper, and may be quicker, B42 option. Or maybe Stokes decided to only have 1 car for them both to share. Anyone else ??

Moving the thread on a little, the FSV B50s. 2 made, I think, into Europe, unless any went to the US. Both with Nelleman's team (??), they came 1-2 at the wet May Donington race in 79, supporting the Euro F£ that Riley won. I recall a picture of the car in MN, just like a B47 F3 car. Anyone else have anything on the cars, bit obscure I know !

EJ's 1979 "B49" was a B49. He ran it without the weird Southgate sidepods (as did Huub with his B48). I think that car went to Tom O Leary and then to Ken Fidles. He fitted lightweight sidepods (B42 style, origin unknown) and cut back the engine cover.
The wide nose for this car is still in our loft I think... RT1-9 - see http://www.dendra.net/PPK2003/pages/RT1-9.html Dave |

Dave
Are you sure of this, I thought we'd reached some agreement that the car EJ had at Phoenix in 79 was the ex-works B48-08, the one Gaillard used in Euro F2 that year, then Devaney at Donington. It was a yellow car, and did have the 'B42-like' wide Chevron nose. Your RT1-9, is the the ex-Hawkins car from UK Atlantic 1981 ? Its colours look like the LEP ones Hawkins had that year. |

I'm fairly sure it was a B49. I was at the race and it did look different to the B48. I'll check with the last Irish owner of the car that I think it was.
Also, B42-78-02. This car was widely regarded as ex Opert/Rosberg here. It is fitted with later (B48?) rear suspension. Patsy McGarrity told me this. Perhaps it was sold on to Opert as a spare. Any Ideas? Dave. |

It seems that there was an even later FAtlantic Chevron, the B-64. I must admit that I've never heard of it, but there's one for sale on ths website.

Mike, I'd never heard of the B64, wonder who designed, Roger A himself maybe. I don't think it'd have had m,any parts/ideas from the B53/56 cars, they were at least 8 years before. Any ideas anyone ??

To resurrect this one, on B49s, how does anyone remember the car. The Hope Scott/Jeffery car in UK in 79, was very smart, and went fairly well, if not quite as quick as Mallock/Crawford that year, nor the Smith and Dowsett Marches. Jeffrey was pretty reasonable in FF the year before, so maybe he flattered the car. Did it go the hills after does anyone know ?

I have a question for the vast assembledge of Chevron knowledgeable owners here. What is the pin pattern for Chevron wheels. When I got one of my cars (non-Chevron), it came w/a set of FAtl size wheels which didn't fit it. Do Chevrons have pins in wheels or on the hub?

Roger,
Are you speaking of the locator pins? Or, the studs that hold the 3 piece wheels together? For reference, take a look at this photo on the Chevron site: http://www.chevronracing.com/susrear.htm |

Richard, I mean the drive pins that mate w/ the hub. I tried to link to your site and it did not work. I'll try again later in steps.

Well, Richard, that's a pretty small drawing to get any info from, but it does look like there are 4 pin locations. Do you know what the diameter is for them? My wheels have 4 pins in them.

Roger, Regarding the exploded photo views of the suspension - If you click on the individual part it should enlarge.
Yes I know the diameter, but not from memory. I will check the spec on those and get back with you soon. |

Roger, I have those specs on the pins:
The main size of the pins are 7/16 and are pressed into the wheel - the short bit is 11 mm and goes through the hub. |

I've just picked up on your note that Ertl had 04. Are you sure it went unraced, or was it the car used by Ertl at Hockenheim that season. [F1 Register has this as 09 but I think that is wrong] Also, as 01 was almost certainly the Patrese test car that then went to Steve Millen, I'm left with two B42s and nowhere to allocate them [though some of F1R's attributions to Briggs' ownership seem a bit dodgy. If you take F1R reports plus the 1979 descriptions in Autosport of 16, 17 and 19 as ex Briggs there are five cars used by Briggs and Briedenbach in 1978. This seems excessive as from my memory most of the time they weren't going fast enough to bend them] Anyway, anyone have any ideas on the identity of the Cinotti car or that of Tomy Racing in Japan? Chris, agreed re Briggs B42s, I'm sure he had 'only' 4. That is nos 5-16-79-19, I think we sorted that out earlier on this thread. All came back to UK in 79, via Robinson, he kept 2, his mate Dean had one, the 4th to Warren B. Don't know about ownership of each, possibly BR owned the Dean car ??

Dan,
Once a definitive realization has been determined, would you mind creating 'linage of ownership' records for the B42's B49's et al? This would be an immense help. |

Richard, not sure I have enough info to do this, maybe we could start it as a joint venture, Chris/Allen/Jeremy/David etc etc.

There is already quite a bit of info already on this thread - (which sparked my idea) Though disseminating through all of it would surely be a task. Unfortunately, my time to attend to such things is very limited. But I will try to help nonetheless. I propose that once the material is compiled, I could then make it readable / downloadable as this is the ultimate objective for the Chevron Racing database - to have an ongoing compilation and report of all of the history of the Bennett era cars (to start with) and their current whereabouts. The later cars will also be included at some point in the future. Thanks! |
