Ambrose is not a major loss to the V8's...losing Stone Bros Racing would be a tragedy if you want perspective. Ambrose was fast in a fast car but generally IMHO not that flash in traffic (which made him interesting to watch).

gee i never noticed that
was wondering how after him and skaife came together in WA last year and marcos got a drive through and so he was last, he finished up 4th, i guess its because he is no good in traffic Surely thats is a sweeping generalisation based on a few races (like one year at NZ) and not on his typical race, because more often than not he was great in the traffic, doubt were many better over the last three years |

Marcos is missed in the championship because the depth of talent on fords side is not as great as on holdens side at the moment.

Generally, yes, but perhaps not as much as i'd expect. Perhaps keeping in touch with his efforts in the US resulted in that.
Whether you hate him or not, Ambrose, Skaife, Lowndes and Murph were the 4 big characters of the sport, and we lost one of them. We'll never get that back. |

Life continued without Beechy, Geogahan, Moffat, Brock, Dicky Johnson, Glen Seton was the baby faced assassin...until the current crop...it seems to me this year a few of the young guys are putting their hands up...Tander,Rick Kelly, McConville, Winterbottom and Jason Richards spring to mind

i think the other thing with passing is marcos alwats tried to win or at least go forward, where as other drivers are happy to stay there and accept the 2 point loss. Unfortunatly many of our drivers do not like to be passed and continue to fight when they have been passed meaning paint gets swapped.
but you are right mctshirt life did go on, but i guess when those guys finished it was because they no longer raced and weer not at theer peak (im not sure about the first two as they weer before my time) wheer as marcos was still a front runner and championship contender, he is still racing, just OS but we do have some new blokes on the scene and i am enjoying frosty and whincup but especially frosty ( and even though i dont like his persona i will barrack for rick ( but only when it comes to two holden drivers) |

Barbagello, Skaife crashed into him, had to pit to clean out the grille etc. Normal pitstop AND drive-thru penalty and finished FIFTH. Shanghai, drive-thru, finished 12th on a track he wasnt particuarly fast on. Op drove back to second after a drive thru. Bathurst, drive-thru and extra pitstop upto 5th until murphy took him out. Indy, car failure, 26th - 11th. Tassie, 27th to 6th in race 3. |

i think you have just covered mr McTShirt point though. notice those drive throughs, he did come in contact with cars "more often than not it was the same two or three holden drivers" usally it was a racing type incident, but he definatly could carve through the field when he wanted to, i doubt anyone could truely deny that, but sometimes he passes where not beautifully clean

It seems as though Pirtek thought Ambrose was a big loss to the series......when he left, so did they.

I can't recall many good battles that involved Marcos Ambrose. They all ended pretty quickly with another car (and/or his own) much worse for wear, or speared off the track. Think about that.
Interesting quote from Marcos on RPM yesterday "ive got alot to learn, to respect other drivers around me" (paraphrased). I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that. BTW wasn't Courtney test driver for Toyota, not Jaguar? |

Anyone else notice the pic of Marcos in the latest MNews? There he is, strapped into that Ute on Steroids, with sponsorship on his helmet from both Milligans Foods and Jeld Wen. Seems the ties to SBR haven't been cut just yet......
