The F1 light boards at Silverstone are only used for F1. They do have red lights around the circuit. As stated, flag marshal only have a yellow light at night which is at the flag posts.

Personally I found that they helped somewhat with glare although it does mean everything is yellow/orange. That's not so good. The main reason I used them was because I found black lenses meant I couldn't see well and the only alternative was yellow! I personally like them, but then again I've never flagged or indeed attended an incident with them...

Its a bit more of a Heath Robinson type thing.

Its a bulb mounted on a broom handle with a switch, and some crocodile clips to attach to the car battery on post.

simple and effective.

Any idea what areas of the track get closed off to the public and/or media during the night? (I recall the ever helpful security were their usual good selves with the TV crew a couple of years ago)

wasn't going to do this meeting but i've had hardly any hols from work this year and this is as good an excuse to take 10 days off as any. looking forward to it, a very hard weekend when we don't have hordes of marshals but the more than turn up the better it gets. looks like a strong mob from Oulton/Anglesey at least

I don't know if I'm marshalling yet, but I hope to be there in one capacity or another... Possibly Media the way things are going, so if you see the Overdrive crew around, be nice!

There didnt seem to be any restrictions last year unlike previous seasons. I am so looking forward to this year ,it's the most prepared our group has been using our experiences from previous years, I think we are now a serious 24 hrs spectator team lol.

Might need to be a bit patient.

The Brscc Midland Centre is running race meetings this weekend - and the following weekend before the 24 hours (as well as the LMS last weekend and the British GT's the week before that) so Roy and the team have quite a bit on their plate at the moment and things have to be done in the right order.

Yes it is a tad busy but I am in the process of compiling the sign on information etc..
That said we are still looking for lots more marshals.. The more we have the better it is for all the rest ... More peeps mean better breaks and better shift patterns ..

Mike Kelly 1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I did the 1st, 2nd and 4th Britcar 24's (missed the 3rd as i was recovering from a knee operation). Enjoyed the 1st and 2nd and then took my son with me to marshal at the 4th. Sadly, due to the treatment that my son and I received from a certain member of the Silverstone Marshals Club I vowed never to marshal at a club event at Silverstone ever again.

I do love endurance races and have marshalled 24 hour races not only at Silverstone but also at Le Mans (once), Nurburgring (six) and Dubai (twice). If the Britcar 24 goes to another circuit in the UK then I will once again marshal it.

I hope that everyone that marshals this year has a safe, enjoyable and dry time.

Mr Kelly, sir, I thought you were a better man than that!

If I had let a "bad" experience put me off Silverstone then I would have stopped going there in 1991. There are various other circuits to which the same could apply, although I assure everyone that not having been to Pembrey or Knockhill since 1992 is purely down to distance and logistics rather than anything sinister!

Come on, Mike: you know you love endurance racing and particularly 24 hour stuff. I'm sure Penny would be more than grateful to have someone with your experience on the team (I know I would).

I will be there but, alas, unlikely to be in "PieLady" mode. If the last round of treatment is anything to go by, just being there will be a plus and I'll probably wave Bill off for the night stint and then go back to bed!!!! Depending on the organisers, I'll do my best to try to keep "PieLady" going in some form or other.......during daylight hours!

Shelagh, that race was the last straw as I have had a number of bad incidents over the years at Silverstone. The only reason that I do the GP is that its the only meeting of the year that all my mates can get too. Dont get me wrong, there's a large number of Silverstone marshals that I know, like and respect. I dont wish to put other people off going which is why I wish them all well.

Roy, You will down stairs and I shall be up stairs as usual, watching you and the cars go by, with the rest of us clock watchers. Big box of sweets and loads of chocolate, choc cakes and strong coffee to keep us going. But we all love this meeting and that is why I have done every one of these at Silverstone, since the start. Wonder what the weather will do to us, this year?

Let's hope the SC has a full tank this time *

* - yes, I guess it probably had a full one last time, but it amuses me that they had to swap them over nonetheless.
