Sorry!

Was it then that one of them raced an Indy 500 car in a GP?

Nearly - Ward raced with a midget car (sort of Indycar F3), which technically complied with the F1 regulations at the time (being about half the capacity of a pukka F1 car). He had beaten some half-decent sportscars and Chuck Daigh sur Maserati 250F at Lime Rock and thought he stood a chance - but he was lapped by about lap 6.

Ward was sporting about the whole thing and his suggestion that Jack Brabham try Indy in a Cooper started the rear engined revolution at the Brickyard.

Alesi let his heart make his decisions, so it wasn't all bad luck. And as much as I admire Johnny Herbert, and realise he had alot of bad luck, I think that after his accident he just wasn't WDC material.

Of the current crop, JPM is the unluckiest I think, apart from Fisi perhaps.

Alesi is classed as a ONE-HIT Wonder, and will be in F1 terms forever!

I think the race he won was a bit lucky anyway!

Depends on what you go by. Fisichella was the deserving winner of that race, he led a full lap before the red was thrown. Hopefully this will be resolved correctly, to add Giancarlo and remove Kimi (for now).

Rules are Rules, Kimi did win,and if they didn't had stopped the race do you really believe Fisichella would have get on podium then,I don't think so

Well Kimi is still a one-hit wonder (unless McLaren appeal) and we have a new one-hit wonder!

Giancarlo Fisichella

Will he stay a one hit wonder?

McLaren don't have to appeal because Kimi will win at Imola

What do you mean Alesi cant win again, I heard a rumour that he's about to be named Jordans test driver

Fisi now joins the club of course, I actually think that he will win again.

Ginther should have won more, but he was usually in the second banana role (BRM and Ferrari). In those days, there seemed to be more of a difference in equipment and/or preparation between the #1 and #2 drivers.

What are you talking about Alesi came in won and faded into the background ? He was in his 6th season before he won and retire 6 years later. Kimi will only ever win if DC or a team mate as quick as DC wins, that being if the car is good enough, JPM will have to hurry up and make sure he gets a better drive otherwise he wont either. Panis would win if he was driving the same car as JPM. All is not what it seems on the surface you've gotta dive deeper than that.

I wondered if someone would bring this up. I also wondered if there would be a two hits wonderes thread!

I'm glad he can be removed now. It's all very well having these new guys, Montoya, Kimi and Alonso, but we need themselves to get established. In a lot of ways they are, but some more wins would go a long way to finishing the job.

I fear for Fisichella on this list. To me, he has one-hit wonder written all over him.

Bit unfair really.

not even a one hit wonder Although Amon lead 183 championship GP laps (none of them the last one!).

A clear indication that a GP win is not the be all and end all.

OK, I was only joking

The safety car led the way to the finish in 1998, but did it also do it in 1997? I think it was in operation when the red flag came out.
