Having said that, Latvala didn't do a bad job either... "Mud on the road, water on the road, gravel on the road, stones on the road" etc. etc. for about a week |

Did you hear the one about the rally driver and the ditch that jumped in front of him from out of nowhere? |

I think some tough decissions need to be made at Subaru regards Mr Pons at the end of the season.
He's become a bit of a liability since joining mid season. I know Atkinson has had a lot of offs too, but he has also shown some pure speed too on both gravel and tarmac. If subaru is going to continue with a 3rd car, why don't they give someone like Wilks a go. He's obviously got experiance from the JWRC days and showed genuine pace in a WRC machine, i think they should give him a go. Regards Ford, looks like the works team could have found a replacement for Gronholm in Latvalla. |

Wilks must have an outside shout after this weekend. It might be he isn't seen as high profile enough yet. Having said that you don't get a profile by parking it in the trees as some of the existing Subaru drivers do all too often. Atkinson has potential but its difficult to be impressed by Pons.

How do you pronounce Xavier Pons anyway?
Kris Meeke was doing very well too. Good move by Citroen to do the Cork/Donegal rallies early in the year, I wonder how much they owe their tyre choices to that? Can't wait for Wales |

But I agree, after the weekend, I think Wilks deserves a drive of some sort, a brilliant driver with a lot of talent, and now has experience in a Subaru, so could be a good thing if Subaru took him on board, but definitely Latvala to take over from Gronholm, but then maybe Wilks might drive along side Wilson at Stobart-VK next year, who knows, will be interesting to see what driver changes will be made, more exciting than the Formula 1!! Just out of interest, anyone heard of anything about Marko Martin coming back? He might be a replacement for Gronholm if he is ready to get back into the rallying? |

Just back from Rally Ireland - what a cracking 'holiday'. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will be back in 2009 if the event is a WRC round.
The Super Special at Sormont was rubbish! The viewing was OK but the big screens stopped showing the on-track action half way through when the two commentators stopped work! Friday and I was at Lough Gill, as they passed my point on the stage Gronholm was nearly 6 seconds up on Loeb & Sordo. Then the first running was stopped after about 10 cars had been past. I was going to stay for the second running but a memeber of my party was taken ill and had to be rushed to hospital in Sligo. Saturday and I walked into the Tempo stage. Just before the cars arrived it started to rain hard! Many drivers were taking it easy but Solberg, Loeb and Latvala stood out. Conor Byrne in an EVO 9 put on a show with a 360 whilst waving to the crowd! After the last car came through we walked out of the stage back to the accomodation and then got a call to pick up our missing member from Sligo. Drove to the hospital, picked him up and then went round the Service Park. Sunday and a 20 minute drive to the Fardross stage. Got into position at a neat hairpin with good views out of the valley. Loeb was in cruise control. Then there was a big incident when Oscar Svedlund lost him Subaru approaching the hairpin. He ploughed through two lots of fencing as he cut the hairpin. He then ploughed down a length of wooden fencing and smashed a sturdy gate post ending up on top of it! He only just missed two lots of spectators who were then moved further back! After the last car through we went back to the accomodation and watched the Mullaghmore stage on RTE. We made it home late last night after a somewhat choppy crossing on the ferry to Holyhead. I am already looking forward to a trip to Ireland in 2009 or possibly even next year! |

I was very disappointed when Gronholm went out of Rally Ireland but Loeb then did a very professional job of grinding out the win. Pity that Ford were more concerned with getting the points for the Constructors title and kept Hirvonen on a tight leash! |
