Looks good, just a shame they had to do it where it's likely to dull the racing even more

It is. Old rear wings were in line with the top of the airbox.

Regarding how it compares to 2016 check this out...
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2017/02/1...heir-2016-car/ I generally don't dislike the 2016 cars, but I do think this looks somewhat better than last year. I assume I am getting sucked in by the larger tires, lower rear wing and curved front wing. One point to make is that I believe this is a 3D rendering and while it should be pretty representative of the real deal, it also likely is missing details from the real car. Also, the renderings are intended to be attractive. Lets see what they look like on track. Richard |

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1...-noses-872020/ anyways it is as you say just a rendering and there are things on there i do like stylistically (new style front wing and lower rear wing) plus its just one car and there is still a ways to go before we see the finished products on track. |

"2017 cars unlikely to be uglier than 2016". Symonds does mention the noses don't look like they did in 2012, but that is also true for last years cars. And I tend to feel the entire article was more about it's unlikely the new regulations are driving the design in unexpected directions that... for example... created the ugly noses of a few years ago. no doubt an example of click bait that i fell for but these noses are still ugly!
given how much has been made of the new regs, how early teams like Williams began focusing on 2017, how the team they are all chasing has (rather had) a different solution...is it really that unreasonable to have expected something different? from the faked leaked renderings of the Mclaren yesterday to official renderings today from Williams (why not real pictures of the car/is this even an accurate rendering?), and obviously the old nose...cant help but feel disappointed by the first look. not having anything else to compare it to yet probably adds to that feeling. |

I doubt that this is the 2017 car, bits of it *might* be like the rear and front wings, the rest of it looks like the last years car ..

Those pictures are 3D rendering and are of the actual 2017 car, released by Williams F1. The finer details of the aero kit (barge boards, diffuser, floor for example) have been left off. It is 75% detail of the 2017 car.
So glad to see that stupid high-rise rear wing is no more. Hated it when introduced in 2009. Hated the look of the 2009 front wing too, but I grew to like the front wing. The rear wing I just could not like no matter which angle you looked at it. I like the look of the 2017 rear wing, but not the front wing. It is much larger than last years front wing, and looks disproportionate to the rest of the 2017 car, which is longer than 2016. |

The diagram above also shows just how much the front wing of the car is in front of the nose cone.
The FIA renderings in the Tech regs show it as well. (page 83 http://http://www.fia.com/file/53156...token=qeLK-XRw Also with the Large flat "no aero" zone, how soon before we see those big back tyres getting lifted by the front wings? |

The meltdowns over this thing I'm seeing in some corners of the internet are hilarious. Some people just can't seem to accept that so little actually changed.
As for my thoughts? ...Certainly an improvement despite the changes being smaller than many anticipated, but I'll wait for a few more cars before I pass an overall judgment on the aesthetics. Best to be at least reasonably sure nobody figured out something new before treating all the cars the same. Last edited by FormulaFox; 17 Feb 2017 at 23:43. |

I don't think anyone is "melting down" as such, we are all excited to see the new cars aren't we 😊

Hyperbole is the norm these days... Mild disagreement is a total meltdown while the real meltdown is a legit president.
I'm as excited to see the new cars about as much as I'm excited to go to work tomorrow. |

It's the norm if we allow it to be, as far as work is concerned I see little point unless we enjoy what we do as we spend much of our lives working or sleeping ..

I still think the new cars are hideous. But then again so were the recent ones. I guess this is a meltdown.

This is rather embarrassing for me to read. So far we have CGI images of one teams car and some limited engine soundbites, and it's already apocalyptic.

Bigger, wider, heavier and more aero reliant with more drag and very little fuel increase, what could possibly go wrong, lift and coast as usual, no change. Race laps 7 seconds off the pole time, yay. Rear wing turbulence lowered to make sure the following car cannot follow. All good! There, melted! |
