Increasing the cap increases the ability of the top teams to widen the gap and there can be no other result of more money. Those teams that can't get funding to reach the present cap are simply going to go backwards which of course suits the teams that have the full funding to spend. The cap in essence achieves nothing in closing the gap IMHO especially if every time a team lobbies to increase it they get rewarded with more money. Horner & Wolfe are expert politicians when it comes to getting their views out there in the media and putting pressure on those who make the rules.

The FIA have delayed the new porpoising rules, while increasing the budget cap due to inflation.

Horner has worked out how politics and lobbying is done and is getting better at it using the media and winding up the RB fan base to get what he wants. I thought Toto was a good operator but Horner has graduated at the top of the class which is his job of course and generally seems top get what he wants. The fact that he has just widened the gap as I mentioned above when mentioned above does the sport no good at all and I think the teams who can't get funding to reach the cap limit should be subsidised and I wonder what Horner would say then.

So basically they are just increasing the budget cap back to where it was last year?
Stared in 2021 at 145m down to 140m for this season and now it’s up to 144m because of the 3.1% bump. Of course this years bump will be added to the contractual inflation index increase already set for next season’s proposed cap but the cap is also set to be decreased by 5m. so 140m would have become 135m but actually because of the bump it’s 144m reduced to 139m and with next years bump, again another bump of little over 4m, it’s back up to around 145m for 2023. Which otherwise would be knows as the budget cap level of the 2021 season. Don’t take my math for granted, I could very well be misreading how this change will be applied, but this really isn’t a big deal is it? Sports budgets are, by their very nature, evolving things from one season to the next. Anyways, if we end up with basically the same budget for 3 consecutive seasons I’m gonna consider that a huge win for this process. |

Post Sprint interview Perez couldn’t wait to mention that the Team is short on parts so he had to be careful - RedBull have showed up at RedBull Ring short on parts ? Really? Or just a petty dig at others spending money?

George Russell said the same thing, mentioned that all the teams are short on parts - don't know if that is budget cap related or a double header thing. When Mercedes put both their cars onto the sprint race grid with repairs rather than replacement parts in some cases, it is clear that there is a lack of parts - Russell is racing with the "barn door" (as Toto described it) rear wing as he broke the low drag wing in his qual shunt and they don't have a spare.
