But DTM is one of the premier touring car / GT series in the world, a destination series and a prestigious title. If Lawson dismisses DTM as a triviality, a championship to race for a bit of fun and not to bother with if it doesn't go well rather than a super serious elite competition racing for sheep stations at the highest level, isn't that rude and dismissive? |

Well, I should think Albon will be fully committed to his Williams F1 drive for 2022.
For Lawson, tin tops were never on his horizon, he's a single seater man through and through. He'll be wanting a top result in F2 this coming year and he won't want to compromise that by diluting his focus. Plus he's also got his F1 Free Practice commitments with Alphatauri for 2022 so plenty on his plate already. Nick Cassidy would be a good pair of hands but I think there are clashes with his Formula E program To be fair Lawson was not dismissive of DTM, he was simply justifiably disappointed with the result and the tactics. He said it was fun and different - that doesn't sound dismissive to me. Here is the full quote to give your quote context:- “But in the future it's not something I want, not the championship, not the way the weekend went down. I loved the season. I really enjoyed my DTM campaign, it was really so much fun. A lot different in many ways to what I'm used to." Last edited by Rusty Nail; 18 Dec 2021 at 08:58. |

Worst kept secret, isn't it. Anyway great to see Rast back, I'm really curious how he fares in a new-era DTM. He's no stranger to GT3 cars so I don't think it'll be a problem for him to adapt.

Quite a strong addition to the squad, on paper Abt looks much stronger than last year. Will be interesting to see Feller in a single-driver format. Feller's signing means Muth won't be at Abt - he was said to be competing for this seat but there's still an opportunity for Muth to land at Rosberg alongside Müller whose presence there seems rather certain.
From other news, there are rumours about AF Corse expanding to three cars and Miguel Molina is said to be one of the candidates for that seat, which would not be sponsored by Red Bull. It's shaping up to be quite a strong field and the numbers almost certain to go up comparing to last year.
Shame to lose ROWE as they were one of the first teams much into the GT3- DTM but has to be said they were completely nowhere last year, even in comparison to Walkenhorst's sole BMW. When you use teamorder in 2022, it is possible to be banned from the series.

The DTM future of Mücke Motorsport is also rather unclear. Peter Mucke claimed he would again field at least one car in the DTM but that would probably need some involvement from Mercedes. But Mercedes mentions only HRT, WINWARD and GruppeM so it looks unlikely Mucke will be able to rely on the factory support. If true, I suspect they will no longer be part of the DTM.

Apparently 30 is the car limit for DTM, and they already have around 25 confirmed entries

Looks like a very healthy yet not overcrowded grid. For now it seems like a great season in the making, with team orders also banned.

The team orders rule could be quite difficult to enforce. Perhaps Auer spins out instead of slowing down. Unless they are bugging all the meeting rooms and and factories the DTM will have no idea whether something is a team order or not. The only instance that is enforceable would be outright telling the driver to slow down. Anything else would only be speculation which is a slippery slope to begin handing out penalties on.

That's absolutely surprising for me but great to see yet another entry in DTM - the grid looks fuller and fuller and it's shaping up to be a very healthy and decent one. Don't expect Attempto to be very near the sharp end of the grid but still nice to see them in DTM.

If everything on your list came to fruition then we'd have the 30 car grid that DTM said was the absolute limit The only shame would be that there wasnt any representation from Aston / Mclaren to take it to the germans and italians but I think thats pretty much a certain no at this point |
