I don't think this has been brought to attention before so I'll just post it here then.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns15958.html The above mentioned article explains the situation with Spa-Francorchamps just perfectly. And if the sounds of the Flemish government are anything to go by, heads will roll in the Walloon government soon.. What with signing a contract which promises huge amounts of taxpayers money to the FIA, without consent of said taxpayers and all... |

FOM, not FIA.
For me, the most important thing that it highlights is the, imho, gorssly unreasonable bias in the favour of Bernie with race arrangements could potentially screw future races in places where governments/rulers are not willing subsidise the races. It seems to me this just accelerates the shift to Tilkedromes in "far-off lands". Holding races in these new places is not in itself a problem, but doing so to the exclusion of all the remaining traditional tracks/countries is not very positive. We just have to hope a few of the traditional venues can cope with subsidising said events (or devise a means of persuading companies to invest in headline sponsorship). |

Eventually tobacco advertising will be banned worldwide. WHO are pushing for that and have outlined plans for that.

None of the teams will be carrying tobacco liveries anyway - so races won't move east for that reason

I thought Ferrari still were, or are they still just sponsored by a tobacco company?

Correct
They'll be moving towards a car which carries only petrol and tyre logos. |

Not exactly. IIRC, P.M. owns the sponsors spaces on the Ferrari. But that also mean that they can in turn sell the space to other sponsors, or even other subsidaries under PM.
The completely red car is if they try to make Ferrari look like a Marlboro pack on wheels, but it's quite a price to pay for a non-logo livery. |

PM also owns Kenco, which is red, so how about Kenco sponsorship

Gt_R - Philip Morris are currently trying to get Vodafone off the car, so rather than selling space on, they do indeed want a "plain" livery.

A contract is a contract according to Bernie. There is nothing to discuss!

I think I am right in saying that Bernie did say that Jenson should honor his contract with Sir Frank Williams. Off topic sorry about that.

Also Bernie had a 15 year contract with Octagon to hold the BGP and he broke that so that he could get more money.

I am not sure by the contract was to run from 2002 until 2017. The contract was orginally with Brands Hatch Lesiure Group which became Octagon Motorsports when Nicola Foulston sold to Interpublic.

It is interesting that the *home* of Formula1, has been threatened several times hasn't it? Very mean tactics I think. Although I do not know most of the details. Bernie had to step in with Spa, he would never live it down if that circuit disappeared. I have to add though the man is not a race promoter as such is he.

Gazzetta is reporting that a new deal has been signed to keep the Belgian GP in Spa for "many years" to come.
