Trying to understand the comment; As youve said Raikkonen has underperformed at Ferrari, perhaps Webber has under performed at Red Bull
How can a driver can be too good for Ferrari? Most "dream" of driving for the prancing horse as a pinnacle of their racing career. Your man may never reach that pinnacle if Vettel has his way.. |

Obviously it's IF KR leaves for pastures new. But unless I've missed something in the past 2 or 3 years, Alonso is considered the best 'pound for pound' driver on the grid right now. Sure Vettel is an exceptional talent but he also has a good head on his shoulders. If you move to THE team too early, what's to look forward to?? Plus RBR are pretty competetive right now (although that could change) so why move from a team that is very obviously on the up? Most people in F1 circles think that the Alonso/Ferrari marriage is inevitable in the next few years so I imagine if KR does decide he wants to go drive a different series at the end of this year, Ferrari would be mad NOT to try to get Alonsos bum on the seat. Of course you could be right and Button might take the seat or Rosberg or Webber or Piquet or Takuma Sato. It is after all just speculation. |

As for Vettel to Ferrari, i'm sure it will happen, but not yet. I'll bet Red Bull have him under a tight contract, and where are BMW in all this when it comes to his contract? The other thing is, with a year or two left on his Red Bull contract, why leave yet? It's a more attractive seat atm than the Ferrari. |

There you go. Vettel will probably go to Ferrari. Vettle will probably NOT go for at least another year. Raikkonen is under contract (as well Massa) through next year. As I said in a previous post something has to give. Everyone keeps saying Alonso to Ferrari for sure. I said what about Vettel? Nobody has disagreed with that so far. Everyone seems to think that is a foregone conclussion as well. I pointed out that there's almost no way they'd get paired together and everyone seems to agree. HOW IS ALONSO TO FERRARI GOING TO HAPPEN? What is going to give? Will Ferrari really buy out Raikkonen to get Alonso for one measly year, ok maybe 2? Will they lock up Alonso long term and wait, say 4, 5 years for Vettel? Or, is everyone banking on Raikkonen just quiting? Even then, how long would they keep Alonso over Vettel? It's a fine idea, it makes sense at first glance. But, I keep asking how is it going to work? All I'm hearing is Alonso in, Raikkonen out. There is no source. Only people 'in the know'. There's no elaboration, no explanation. Everyone is just brushing Raikkonen aside. If anyone thinks that Alonso's in instead of Vettel speak up. But, for the people who have Alonso and Vettel driving for Ferrari please explain. When and how will Raikkonen leave? Then, if Ferrari wants Vettel how are they going to work that? Why force out one champ (perhaps at great cost) to bring in another as a stop-gap? |

Maybe Ferrari won't buy Kimi out, but maybe Santander will? Don't forget that Santander went to McLaren as part of the Alonso to McLaren package, now they are going to Ferrari for 2010.

Official ? I guess it will be. Ferrari will have Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso in 2010, even if Raikkonen doesn't want to leave : http://www.estadao.com.br/estadaodeh...mp400138,0.php

In english:
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headline...09095140.shtml That's right, I wondered who would buy out KR's contract if this is true....Santander. Won't cost Ferrari a thing. Wouldn't it be cheaper to hang on to Kimi until the end of his contract and buy out Massa instead? Then we could have another "team" rivalry. I know Kimi couldn't care less who drove alongside him, but sucky Alonso sure would. |

Thank you! At least we're answering some questions now. On the subject of sponsors, wasn't ING planning on following Alonso after their Renault contract expires this year? Or was that before the economy tanked?
BTW...What happens with Ferrari and Vettel if Santander buys out Raikkonen and goes to Ferrari with Alonso? And where does this leave Marlboro? |

<----- Well, if that's how it is I am obliged to change my avatar to show my support for Kimi.
I'm sure the Robertsons will make very sure that he receives every single dollar to which he is entitled. I'm looking forward to Spa with more anticipation than usual this year. Kimi admits that it is his favourite circuit, although the race he would most like to win is Monza. That's very unlikely this year, but it would be hilarious if due to unforeseen circumstances he were to win, leaving Ferrari to announce that he won't be around next season. |
