Are they all late 1980s? Some look early 1980s.

A lot of them are early 1980s and some are 1970s Allen. I'm not sure if they're all Leo's ['cause he's not that old ], hence my post above.

Nope, not all mine. If you hold the mouse over them, they will say "Leo" and a number if they are mine. All the rest are Con's!!
I think that might be David Sleator in the Midget?? |

Are you sure its him ? Do you know what year its from ? I think that may have been the Midget I raced ! Here it is with my dad [the Zola Budd of motorsport] at the wheel in 1989.

It was Leo, can you believe it !! I came out of the 'plush' Mondello toilets to see that thing barrelling down the straight with the old man behind the wheel 'sans lid' !! At the time, my brother thought that he was simply reversing it off the trailer whereupon he put it into first, drove it round the paddock and took off out the pit lane. Crazy days !
Seriously though, would you be pretty sure that's David Sleator behind the wheel of the number 3 Midget ? Is he the same David Sleator that does photography for the Irish Times among others ? |

That would be great Leo, thanks so much. I've waited over 20 years to find out where my Midget came from ! Reading that sentence again sounds like I need psychiatric help.

Does anyone know Arthur Kellett? He used to race an Imp/Stiletto, apparently he lives in Ireland. Does anyone know if he raced the car in Ireland?

Wouldn't be so sure of that Dave.......!! Believe it or not , this year will be my 18th season, so that should age us all a bit. The story of your old man reminds me of the day you fired my dad's F.Vee off during a winter 'Test' on that old factory road in Ballymount. Don't think you can do things like that anymore more's the shame. Racing cars seem so much faster on roads that the general public are allowed on! Just ask all the Fiat racers that used to test up and down the main road of the Phoenix Park...at night...! They are great pics. I keep seeing that Ritmo and crying cos it had all the bits I want for the 128. I wonder how many of the other cars in those pics were broken/left in fields/chucked in skips? |

Those photos are brilliant they bring back so many memories of when I used to go the as a kid.Me and my three brothers used to sit in the grand stand and watch all the races while listening to Robin Rhodes!!!
I used to go th Mondello with my father when he was working with the Griffins and then later I used to work on two Formuls Fords with Martin Mc Mahon & Donal Healy. I wonder will there be a part three of golden oldies. David |

Seeing as we're all coming out with the odd dodgy story, what about the guy who won the Ritmo race in the Phoenix Park a few years ago, celebrated a little( ) and then couldn't find his trailer and decided he had better drive her home.... Wait a mo, that could have been me
I vaguely remember arriving back at my girlfriends house, heel and toeing for all I was worth and finding her standing in the garden with her mother (having heard the open exhaust miles away) with a face like thunder........... Ah well, both her and the Ritmo are long gone!!!! |

More pics added to the same page by the way!!
And Davyboy, that was David Sleator, he raced that car for a year or two, should have a number for him shortly, I'll give him a shout and see if he can shed any light on the Midget's history........ |

Leo you're a star and a half for that. Ya e-mail me the number or his mail address, that would be brilliant.
Those last pictures are fabulous, God do they bring back memories, particularly that shot of the Mondello paddock with what I think is Tony Trimmer's T332 less bodywork. Remember that pile up too at Shell as well when Mike Armstrong shortened his Kadette ? Didn't he have it out again a week later or something. Look at the karting pictures... wasn't it amazing how popular the 'tash was in Ireland in the 1980s... sorry Paul, you're gonna kill me from bringing that in Fantastic pictures though Leo... you and Con have unearthed a treasure trove with these. |
