Offhand this left Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. Thailand has strong presence and manufacturing (of dumb trucks) but these 3 markets are 1% of global market, so RHD doesn't stack up. |

I was watching smith and sniff video podcast thing the other day and sniff mused that if Vauxhall just disappeared then, well, meh, whatever, no loss.
I’m interested from the Aussies, is that the feel of the Holden brand now? In the UK the only vaguely interesting Vauxhall product came from Australia! |

I call myself a Holden fan, my first 2 cars were Holdens, but the 3 subsequent cars were not, and the next one wouldn't have been either.
I wear the merch and follow the racing and would have killed for a HSV in the shed, but real life dictated a smaller more economical car, and Holden really never consistently offered a car like the Golf GTIs I've driven now for 14 years. I'm sad Holden is lost, I think the Federal Government was the catalyst if not the cause. I think even if Abbott hadn't yanked the chain a couple of years ago today would have come, and those like me who say they love Holden but never bought one lately, have to take our medicine. I have rented and enjoyed V8 Commodores in various guises but one never suited me for a primary car. |

I’m a bit worried you’ve just proven Mixer’s point

Holden Brand Gone!!!
To answer the question Adam, I’d have to say that the current offerings from Holden aren’t anything special, but then that could be said for a few different brands really.
When the cars were being engineered & built here, there were some gems & they’ll be missed, no question. When it comes to racing, I’m not a fan of any brand particularly but I’ve gone the opposite way to Mixer & moved from Golf to VF Holdens for my last couple of rides, current one being an HSV. 3 years old now & over 100K km but I can’t see myself chopping it in anytime soon - bloody good thing & hard to see what I’d replace it with. |

I learnt to drive in an 1956 FJ Holden...and owned and drove several other Dunny Doors...
We only have a few years before we become a Chinese satellite province...start learning Mandarin and deal with it :-( https://www.news.com.au/technology/i...61c86992abf809 https://www.alibaba.com/countrysearc...orts-cars.html As Kenny Rogers used to sing: You gotta know when to Holden! Know when tah Foldem! Our country is vast, BUT our population is relatively small...change to LHD, Sweden did a change overnight! That would allow a much larger choice of off-the-shelf vehicles (assuming we can cut through our volumes of red tape!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagen_H |

2009-2014 you couldn't buy any in Australia. From 2015 on you could buy the VXR, but again it was 2-door only. First it was a Holden, then it was an Opel, then it was a Holden again. Now its a Peugeot I guess. And the Golf GTI from any of 3 generations that hail from this period in time thrash the Astra in every measurable metric, as does the equivalent Focus of the period. Starting to tell a story. |

I wonder how feasible this really would be? Technically, and behaviorally? The former may be less of a problem than the other? Anyone who has driven a LHD car in a LHD territory can testify to some incidents, but my experiences have been pretty trouble-free. |

Note that Sweden changed overnight after 4 years of work to prepare and with 90% of cars already lhd. Quite different to here, including more km of road per head population - a lot more $$$. I'm not sure if it was considered after WW2, but that would have been the only feasible time IMO. Last edited by johnh875; 22 Feb 2020 at 20:33. |

The US also changed but it was a long time ago, pre WW1 I think.

Things at 888 seem surprisingly calm. Both drivers re signing tells me something is on the go.

Possibly. But Holden’s contract with the team covers 2021 so I’m not surprised they’re both signed on til then. I don’t understand why people think that Triple 8 and other teams won’t be racing the Commodore next year. It does annoy whilst watching the weekends coverage about supposed shock and amazement about Holden pulling the pin. Are these people for real? The writings been on the wall for at least the last couple of years. This is no surprise. It was a question of when not if. |

Completely agree. Best thing to do now is carry on with the current cars until the end of 2021 as planned, and have either Gen 3 of the existing cars or (the better option) a completely new rulebook in place for 2022, giving everyone time to plan the change.

To be fair, reporting in the general media as opposed to the specialist press has linked the cessation of the Holden brand at the end of this year with "no Commodore racing at Bathurst in 2021"
