brands hatch should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi all,

I am probably heading to the 24hr this year and it will be my first 24hr race. There will be a couple of us going, and i just wondered, are you "allowed" to just kind of pitch a two man tent in a spectator area, as a "base" to watch from/fall asleep in if necessary!?? Or do you have to stick to designated campsites?

Apologies from a 24hr newbie!

Regards
Liam

Pretty sure that camping anywhere trackside is a no-no..

I always play it safe, sleeping bag in the grandstand

Edit: forgot to mention, I hope you enjoy it, I think it's a great event, and definatley the best event held at Silverstone each year

Check the spelling...
the driver is Robert Kucia not Kubica

The spreadsheet I was looking at (linked to yesterday) clearly said 'Robert Kubica', have got it saved on my Google Docs (just to be pedantic!): https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...thkey=CPm-p68D

I've read on another forum that Darren Dowling will drive the TVR Sagaris. Also, that some WTCC driver will be driving, but no clue as to who. Unless they mean BTCC, in which case its Andy Neate. Not long now, really looking forward to this.

As a newbie to the event, can anyone provide suggestions on what to take along? Sleeping bag to sleep in the grandstands etc?

Oh, and are the expensive burger vans open for most of the evening?

Ta!

John George is also racing in this one, along with his son & 2 others in Class 4 in a Honda Interga.

Dank, the Paddock cafe is open all night/day

You are correct. Darren Dowling will be driving the Sagaris along with Tim Hood and Fred Tonge.

It's our 1st 24hr so lets hope it all goes ok

I shall be there, but i will be dressed neck to ankle in orange in the pitlane. this year will definitely be even more interesting for us with all the teams having fuel in the main pitlane. but hopefully all the teams will abide by the regs (fingers crossed). hopefully we dont get fogged over in the early hrs.

The new layout is longer and therefore needs more martials, that's what I've been told anyway.

Well not all of the grandstand will be open.. but if they are it's okay as far as I know. I do it every year (except last year !!)..

Just don't imagine that sleeping on the seats will be comfortable, because it isn't!

Just remember to sit in a grandstand in the infield, that way you will have commentary through the night. Th e ones on the outfield go silent around 10 pm. Remember to wrap up warm, and remember it's a long walk to the car parks so be equipped. Also pick up an hourly bulletin from race control so you can understand how the race is panning out.

Yeah, but after a couple of "medicinal" beverages, 3 hours of watching the cars go round in the fog, behind the safety car... it is difficult to stay awake!

True, the fog is a bit of a spoiler. A day and night like we've had today would be fantastic. Watch the temp. drop now and for the rain to appear come next Saturday.

I can confirm I will definately be heading up there now with a mate of mine...and we plan to "slug it out" in the grandstand overnight! Unless its raining, in which case we may be tempted to camp. (I guess you can pay for camping on the day??)

Will be the third weekend in a row of GT racing for me, With the International GT open at Brands last week, British GT this week and Britcar next week .

Am looking forward to this a lot now!

Camping is a bit awkward, there is the White Rabbit campsite at around £30 per tent other than that it's quite a walk. You will probably stay drier in the stand anyway.
R.e the G.T Open, that was a fantastic pair of races. Far better than when they raced with the WTCC a couple of seasons back.
