Jenson Button guesting with Team Dynamics though there's some conjecture as to what year that was supposed to be.

2006
Andy Neate was supposed to run in the Daniels Motorsport Astra again in the 2006 finale. Also, DW Racing looked into running two Astras with Oli Wilkinson in one car and an unnamed Scottish driver in the other. |

Shane Lynch and Eclipse Motorsport looked into entering the 2007 BTCC.
Darrell Wilson (pre-Team 48) was rumoured to be entering an Alfa Romeo that same year. |

Michael Vergers and Warren Hughes were both in the frame to be Paul Radisich's team-mate at Ford in 1996 until Steve Robertson got the drive.
Vergers also missed on joining Ford for the 1997 RAC Tourist Trophy and the 1998 BTCC. |

The 3rd Team RAC MG had a few drivers linked to it in '06. Pickford obviously, Dan Eaves after he lost his Team Halfords seat, Paul Bird expressed an interest. Paul Luti intended to run an MG in '09. Henry Taylor's had a few near misses, he was linked to an Astra Sport Hatch run by CMS Performance as well as Team RAC in '06 and a 3rd Team Aon Focus in 2010. Team Dynamics had Alain Menu lined up to stand in for Matt Neal at one point. I can't remember the year but I know it was in the 2010's and before his return in 2014. Phil Glew came close to joining Team Aon for 2011. Last edited by Nononsensecapeesh; 20 Sep 2021 at 11:06. |

I think Gio might have been on stand by to replace Neal in 2011, when Matt got his usual season ending injury

I think I remember redshoes' (old) website mentioning that Brunstedt was going to two Opel Vectras, one for himself, one for Thomas Johansson.
There were a few entries that got as far as arriving but not starting of course. Sean Walker, Alistair Fenwick and Tony Bardy in 1991. Walker was originally intended as Robb Gravett's team-mate at the Trackstar team. David Pitcher and his Class B Integra in 2000, entered opening meeting, didn't start either race then he sold the car. Thorney originally wanted to run its two Insignias in 2011, of course, only one appeared in John Thorne's hands and it did a single parade lap before pulling into the pits. Pinkney joined Rob Austin's team but did not start at all at the first meeting and then left. Carl Boardley originally came close to joining Team HARD for the 2013 Season. |

Didn't WSR list Turks alongside Collard and Foster in 2011 even though he didn't return to them until 2013?
Most recently, Mat Jackson tried to replace Shedden at Team Dynamics in 2018, even though he was already contracted to Motorbase. That same year, Jake Hill tried to switch from Team HARD to the AMD MG6. Both drivers ended up on the sidelines. |

From a previous thread but edited:
The drivers in the run for the second Volvo seat in 1999 were Tim Harvey, Vincent Radermecker and Jan Nilsson. Nilsson and Harvey shared the second S40 in the 1998 Bathurst 1000, and Harvey even tested for Volvo several times during the pre-season. I don't know why Radermecker was picked eventually, from the articles I could gather Harvey seemed like the favourite for the seat. Nilsson was probably more of an outside chance. If Peugeot had continued into 1999, they would have kept both Radisich and Harvey. Both Renault and Nissan were chasing after Aiello for 1999; had he gone to Renault he would have partnered Jason Plato. Alfa Romeo considered entering BTCC if the Italian Super Touring series was cancelled at the end of 1999, with Giovardi driving one of the cars. In the end the Italian series were replaced by a European championship, and Alfa raced there instead Giovanardi wanted to race in BTCC in 2000, regardless of what team While Tarquini did make a few apperances in 1999 for Honda, there was some mid-season speculation that Honda and JAS would pull out of STW and race with Tarquini and Kristensen alongside Kox and Thompson to bolster Thompson's title chances. In July, a third works car was "likely", with either Tarquini or Kristensen as the driver. This would be run by JAS, and depended on Honda withdrawing early from STW Paul Morris was to have run in a second Team Dynamics Primera, but a lack of engines put a stop to the plans. After Peugeot withdrew, Paul Radisich was in contention for the Nissan seat. After winning the Renault Spider series in 1999 Andy Priaulx was looking for a BTCC seat; had Renault stayed on for another year a Plato-Priaulx pairing would not have been unlikely. Priaulx did however get to test the Laguna. Damon Hill was offered a test in Team Dynamic's Primera in 1999 Volkswagen were looking at entering BTCC in 2000 Radermecker was talking to Team Dynamics about racing a second Primera in 2000. Laurent Aiello was on the verge of joining Honda for 2000. Vauxhall and TOCA were co-operating to put a gas-powered Vectra on the grid for 2000, but shortages of funds saw the programme canned. Mark Ticehurst was to race the car as an independent entry. Greg Murphy was a possible driver for Vauxhall for the 2000 season, but this speculation was before Plato became a free agent with Renault quitting. Fredrik Ekblom tested for Renault ahead of the 1999 season, and was an outside possibility for the second drive. Last edited by Nononsensecapeesh; 22 Sep 2021 at 12:50. |
