Rosset? I completely forgot about him. Footwork (Arrows) fired him. Tyrrell inherited him. BAR bought out Tyrrell. The End.

Verstappen finished on the podium in his first season of F1. Good car yes, but "mediocre" drivers don't finish in the top three of a Grand Prix.
Anyone who scores big points is by definition good. Unless you are a very harsh critic. As for Bernd Schneider - no-one would have achieved anything with that Zakspeed. |

Good points. I retract my....hang on a second! Verstappen was in a Benetton Ford B194. The second best car on the grid (or the best maybe).
and Schneider wasn't great. he wasn't bad. |

A Message From Our Friends At The FIA
Let us not forget that if we were in the cars, we would in turn, also be diabolical. To make it into motorsport is tricky ebough. So, lets try and keep this in context. Worst F1 Driver ever, but they are near the top of the game getting in. For that (Unless they're fuelled by money) they deserve our respect and admiration. |

Surely a bad F1 driver is one that was abysmal in a competitive F1 car, therefore you could include such people as:
Michael Andretti, Hector Rebaque and here's a possible controversial one...Antonio Pizzonia, I don't think he was the driver I saw in Formula 3. |

I agree on Pizzonia. One season in Jaguar. Rubbish. His races for Williams were good, but then he had the equipment.

Schneider was a lot better than mediocre in F1, once you compare his results to those of his team-mates (Ghinzani and Suzuki). A driver's achievements outside F1 often tell you a lot about why they didn't succeed in F1, and all too often it isn't because of a lack of talent. Schneider, Bobby Rahal, Jo Winklehock, Gabriele Tarquini, Alex Zanardi, Eric van der Poele - all great drivers who didn't get proper chances in F1.
My choice would have to be Deletraz - 7 seconds behind his team-mate in an 80-second lap? Lapped 10 times in 60 laps on his debut? Stalled on the racing line by letting the revs drop too low? Pathetic. |

No argument there. Zanardi was excellent in Touring Cars and Champ Cars.
Pity about F1, then |

Deletraz confuses me hugely, in that he had a couple of podia in his first F3000 season, so he could not have been entirely clueless. Unless he was using a 3.5 litre engine or something. That's a better record than many more vaunted F1 drivers. And Philippe Adams won a couple of British F3 races, although he was in the formula for so long that's perhaps not so surprising or such a great achievement. |

Deletraz was awful, but he was outclassed totally by Rosset. Money powers F1 now, not engines

Money has always powered all forms of motorsport.

Did Michael ever outqualify Senna? Hakkinen managed it first time.
I'd agree though with the view that the overall standard at the back of the grid has been higher in recent years than it was in teh past. Other than some of the paydrivers in the years of massive pre-qualifying fields just over a decade ago, even guys like Mazzacane and Yoong could've probably scored regular points in the early days. |

Olivier Beretta was more than respectable at Larousse, and he´s become a great sportscar driver. He should not be in that list

Interesting views. Much and all as I hate that song (Stacy's Mom). I've gotta agree with you.

Yoong in the 72 was interesting, but he was helped hugely by attrition and by a number of drivers not being interested in competition per se. But kudos to him for giving 'er a go. |

BTW - he didn't , Andretti was much closer to Senna (in grid slot) until Canada and then it all went to pieces.
