GHOGH should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Did it enhance or otherwise the series to have Cassidy turn up and win the GP?

Believe you should have to do a minimum number of rounds to qualify to start GP race.

Understand FT40 tubs could be destined for an academy overseas. Engines to the FT50 car

Why? In days past, with overseas GP drivers more than happy to come along for the occasional Tasman race, it added value.

The GP is important and just happens to be included in the TRS, but it doesn't have to be. The difference is that in earlier years, it appears that you could run cars that didn't all conform to the same formula and it was probably all the richer for it!

Certainly, there was never a demand for a driver to compete elsewhere first.

Yes Why????

in these days with such low numbers fronting on the grids (across the board I mean), why would you limit the numbers competing, especially someone who was always unlikely to be an "also-ran".

I think its great nick wanted to be involved and tbh was disappointed that Kenny Smith couldn't source a car to also compete...

Exactly. I agree totally. And didn't Neale Motorsport (who ran Tang, Munro and Cassidy) have a magnificent first season!

Nick Cassisdy deserved to be on the grid, he has just come of a soul destroying year trying to scrape money together to get a ride in Europe, and was recruited by Andy Neal to coach his teams drivers, smart smart move in my opinion.

If Nick had had the budget he would have run the whole TRS season, as it was he only just got enough backing to pay for the GP weekend drive.

Goat Boy has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
She's a hard road to hoe in motorsport, both here and overseas. It's okay if your daddy is mega-rich but for the normal human it's a constant struggle unless you can find a Willi Weber of your own. Luckily we have Colin Giltrap who has done a huge amount for young 'uns but even he does not have unlimited pockets.

Someone needs to convince Wayne Rooney to spend some of his NZ$600k per week salary on motorsport in NZ....

...and his manager who gets 25%

We are lucky we have the Colin Giltraps of this world and others in NZ. Also lucky they are continuing to fund many NZers overseas...including Hayden Paddon (news confirmed today, has been a rumour around Europe for months)

They all did conform to the same formula. You need to do your homework a little better and check the regulations of the time for it was Formula Libre

Which means "Free Formula"! Not like TRS or FF or even F5000 which is what I was getting at - but I think you know that!

Formula Libre has always been a grid which is a mish-mash of cars which may or may not conform to any other formula of the time, particularly where grids would be too small to be viable on their own.

Seems the 86 series is in trouble, geaer boxes going left and right, then some dates that they cant do and blame the other people then hay, we will pay you 1000 dollars to come to taupo at easter and have no tv coverage.

If you add an 8 before the 5, you'll be on the money. That covers all running costs except damages (and gearbox repairs) which is a lot of freight to run three races with a handful of other 86's. It's hardly appealing is it.

I don't think "the drive" has ever been in question. But the gearbox issue is of concern for many in the class, trust me on that. Aside from that they are considered, by more than a few, to be very expensive at $78k plus GST, and by the time you buy tyres, pay the Series Registration and entry fees (plus all the other bits we know cost extra money), you are paying quite a bit to run in a series that (correct me if I'm wrong) has at best had nine cars at any one round. There are only five drivers that have competed at all rounds, so it's not exactly well supported is it.

Not cheap, the gearbox rebuild kit sans beerings is 1200 plus gst and has to be done from one of them, so figure 2 grand on a box that will last 2 meetings if lucky.

12500 was the last i got from a pay driver through neil alport he said thats a joke and never went ahead.
