It is entirely possible that Piastri has a contract which expressly prevents Piastri from having secondary status until Piastri is mathematically eliminated. Mark Webber may have insisted on it.

Piastri made clear before the Italian GP that there were no team orders and he was intending to attempt to win the Italian GP. It's obvious better for Piastri if he has 3, 4, 5 wins and Norris only 2, instead of Piastri 1 and Norris 5-6 wins.

Hungary was merely correcting that Norris was given the undercut on Piastri, Norris was not entitled to that win so it should not be used as any kind of evidence or indication of anything. Norris may been have immediately dismissed from McLaren had he ignored the requirement to reinvert the positions there.

I disagree. Norris was pitted early to cover Hamilton. It may have been over-cautious but it worked. The unintended result of that was that he undercut Piastri. That could have happened if they had been in two different teams, in which case Norris would have won the race.

Yep - agree completely, Piastri had passed Norris and driven away, only for that to be reversed by the undercut, which the team redressed in sporting fairness.

But they're not in two different teams - were that the case, McLaren would have been concerned about the undercut from a rival team and would have pitted Piastri either on the same lap or prior to Norris.

Not entitled to the win? That's an interesting way to put it. There's also a lot in here about it being 'better for Piastri'.... Of course, he and his manager would obviously like to have preferential treatment at all times, but that doesn't make it the right thing for the team to allow.

Yes, not entitled. You don't get given an undercut on your teammate. The leading car gets pit priority that's rule of engagement.
